Haven't ever done a meal plan and am feeling guilty because of the "how much food do you throw away" thread.

Any nice people out there wish to share their plan and accompanying shopping list.

presume you have flour marg and milk? you could do a yummy chicken, mushroom and sweetcorn pie with a creamy sauce topped with the puff pastry. or what we do is make the sauce on the stove and make gaint volevant (sp) cases, these are called treasure chests in our house!

katz · 20/04/2008 15:03

can you make the flour wrap things - from stratch? how how how how?

sparkleymummy · 20/04/2008 15:04

Ooh how do I do those. I bought the pastry because it was on special offer but haven't a clue what to do with it.

We live on ready meals st the mo

(Only Dh and me. The DSs get decent food)

I can!

Tablespoon salt and 450g plain flour sieved together. Rub in fat 2oz lard and 1 oz butter. Add in 10 fl oz warm water slowly. Knead into a dough. Make into little balls and roll until its so thin that you can see the board through the dough. Stick a plate on top and cut around if you want a perfect circle.

Cook in a pan on a moderate heat for 30 seconds each side.

Really quick and easy otherwise I wouldn't be able to do it!

treasure chests, quite simple.

roll out the pastry and cut into the required number of squares ( i our house its 2 big ones and 2 smaller ones!). just inside the square score but don't cut threw the pastry. cook according to instructions, the stuff i but is 20 mins at 180C.

whilst pastry is cooking, fry and onion and the chicken (diced), add garlic/herbs of choice, once chicken cooked add mushrooms and sweetcorn, leave to cook. in sep sauce pan make a white sauce (250ml milk, 25g flour, 25g marg, melt marg add flour cook for couple of milk, slowly add milk a little at a time, lots of stirring)

add white sauce to chicken ( i ignore the lumps in my sauce!)

remove pastry cases from oven, the scored but should now come of the top leaving a chest, place teh chicken mixture into the hoel and replace the top, there you have treasure chests! we replace the chicken with tuna and prawns for seafood treasure chest!

might have to try that - thanks

with the mince, you could do a sort of chili con carne, onion, diced carrot, diced peppers and even bung the salsa in to the sauce to use it up, grate cheese over the top at the end.

With the philly you could do individual cheese cakes, if you have any digestive biscuits use them as a base, mix philly with some lemon juice and a bit of grated peel. Even if it only makes two it's a nice treat for afters.

You could stuff your chicken's tits with the stilton and roast, wrapped in bacon.
