At what age do you indoctrinate in introduce your children to the ritual of tea drinking?

Please dont give your kids those 'fruit infusions' they are like sucking on a lemon. Put them off for life. Good old fashioned PG tips with a bit of semi skimmed and half a sugar.

Where have you been hiding tr?

Ok as a non tea drinker (& being from a family of non tea drinkers) I just don't understand the whole tea thing anyway but have to admit I was shocked at a friends 2 year old drinking (admittedly very milky) tea.
DH & family are tea addicts extraordinaire (I have never known any family get through so many kettles!!) I was really wondering how early people start & also whether I am going to have to start the anti tea campaign with dd (1 1/2) just yet

dd had her first cup when she was about 7. She has the odd cup, but rarely finishes it. She makes it for me beautifully though, and that's the most important thing!

TrinityTheProgressingRhino · 19/04/2008 21:50

abouteve

there is mno need to FFS about it

what I am talking about is introducing children to something which they may later feel that they cannot do without

How many adults do you know that can't get themselves going in the morning without a cup of tea or coffee??

It IS addictive and it sdoes mess with your body

Now I ain't no angel, I can't get going in the morning without a fag and a glass of juice but thats another story

Spidermama · 19/04/2008 21:50

abouteve I agree with you on the subject of so called fruit teas. How anyone can drink them is beyond me. Herbal, yes.

I say, I say, I say ... why do hippies drink herbal tea?

Because proper tea is theft. Geddit?

SmugColditz · 19/04/2008 21:50

Oh shocked horrified administer emetic forthwith!

Spidermama · 19/04/2008 21:51

We are nearly all addicted to caffeine and in denial in this country.

TrinityTheProgressingRhino · 19/04/2008 21:51

TrinityTheProgressingRhino · 19/04/2008 21:52

SmugColditz · 19/04/2008 21:52

Oh Oh OH

And only now she tells us about her SORDID RELATIONSHIP WITH JUICE!!!!!!

Do you not like having teeth in your head, trinny?

It may be orange now, but give it a few years and you'll be selling your ass for just an egg cup of mango. Innocent Smoothies? I Don't Thinnk So.

Oliveoil · 19/04/2008 21:54

I didn't drink tea until I was pregant with dd1 (when I was 32)

hated it all my life

but when I was pregnatn, I fainted one day and dh made me buttery toast and sugary tea and I think that ever since I have associated it with comfort

I now have about 3 cups a day

TrinityTheProgressingRhino · 19/04/2008 21:54

TrinityTheProgressingRhino · 19/04/2008 21:58

WHAT DOORS?

Remotew · 19/04/2008 21:59

Trinity, I wanted to jump on your head until you mentioned the fags, (fellow addict). Ok but I hate fruit teas. Love Rooisbos and should buy it but lost the taste. Anyway DD doesnt have caffeine shes only addicted to sugar

OverMyDeadBody · 19/04/2008 22:00

lol colditz

I'm addicted to caffiene, I like my cup of tea in themorning, there is nothing wrong with it. Life's too short and meaningless to deny ourselves simple pleasures like caffiene addictions

mimitherabbit · 19/04/2008 22:03

You have to be careful with tea because it impedes iron absorption in children (not sure up until what age). Having said that, my 3 year old loves drinking the dregs out of the bottom of my cup!

I don't want to live longer though, life is long enough as it is. I'd rather carry on abusing my body a bit
