Visitors coming.
Gluten free
No onions or garlic
Don't like fish or cheese.

I'm actually very tolerant of people's different tastes and requirements. And quite an adventurous cook. But I'm feeling defeated. Help please!

this is a lovely gluten free cake, I've made it a couple of times for a friend who is GF when she's come over for coffee but you could serve with eg caramelised oranges or a soft fruit compote and whipped cream to make it more dessert like.

I was also going to suggest a roast dinner. Paxo makes a GF stuffing mix if you did eg roast pork with stuffing balls, apple sauce and a range of veg & roast potatoes

Think it's going to be a very meaty week!!
That cake recipe looks lush - I shan't be saving that for GF guests!

No pork, wheat, cheese, onions, fish or garlic?
No invitation.

Or an onion free chilli with cornbread and rice.
Baked potatoes
Antipasti
Roast dinner (use rice for the stuffing and cornflour for the gravy).
Gammon, egg and chips.
Risotto (without Parmesan)
Burger and chips
Salads (onion free)
Pho (uses rice noodles)
Stir fries (make sure you use gluten free soy sauce).
Gluten free sausages with mash and greens.
Omelettes
Full English (GF sausages)
Steak and chips with roasted tomatoes and a rocket salad.

A Mediterranean chicken traybake with potatoes thrown in.

Rice pudding and poached plums for dessert.

Easy peasy and all done before they turn up.

AdaColeman · 11/09/2024 02:49

Duck breast roasted, serve with fruity sauce orange or cherry, mixed green vegetables and sauté potatoes.

Gluten free sausages toad in the hole.

Roast chicken salad.

Mixed bean and winter vegetable casserole, maybe serve with grilled lamb chops.

Baked or boiled gammon joint served with cabbage, mashed potatoes and a parsley sauce made with gluten free cornflour.

Egg & chips, soup, bacon sandwiches, baked potatoes & topping, might be good for lunches.
You will definitely need Gin Gin Gin

Do they actually dislike all types and forms of cheese? My 6yo doesn't like eating cheese uncooked in sandwiches or with crackers, but doesn't mind it when it's cooked into something like in a quiche, lasagne or on a pizza.

BCBird · 11/09/2024 05:40

M and S gluten free bread good. Roast dinner hood idea. Buy shops own gluten free gravy granules- they are fine and more than a third of price of bisto. Paco gluten free stuffing nice. Sausage- many gluten free and mash? Cooked breakfast? Salads? Alternatively suggest a Premier Inn

faffadoodledo · 11/09/2024 09:02

Just thought I'd make some hummus (I make great hummus!) and realise I can't put garlic in it!!

Hummus will be fine without garlic, maybe add some cumin for extra flavour?

Rasputin123 · 11/09/2024 10:56

GF is easy its the no garlic, no spices and no cheese that I would struggle with.

You could do a roast dinner but remember they would need GF gravy and no flour on roast potatoes and no yorkshire pudding unless made with GF flour (personally I would miss YP’s for them).

Maybe steak or chicken with homemade chips or sweet potato fries and salad.

I would just do picky bits on separate plates dishes. Salad stuff, cold meat and whatever else you like (containing everything they don’t like/don’t eat). Or I would ask them for a few favourite meals recipes or better still ask them to bring a dish or two along with them.
