Recipes that don't require a hob

Following on from another thread, we've moved into our new house and the gas hob isn't connected yet so I only have the oven/grill, air fryer and slow cooker. I'm getting very sick of the same things!
Really missing my pasta dishes, I cooked one from one of my slow cooker books but the pasta was really stodgy!

Can you not do a lasagna in the airfryer?
Make the filling in the slow cooker?
Or do oven spaghetti?

I'd find this very restricting as many things I make start with frying an onion on the hob. Soup (ready-made), bread, cheese, fruit. Baked potatoes, virtually any filling, salad. Toasted sandwiches and salad. Grilled chicken or fish, rice or other grains from a pouch, salad or microwaved veg. Freezer meal - breaded fish or Quorn burgers or similar, oven chips, veg or salad. Good quality ready meal. Takeaway. Eat out. Use a BBQ outside, weather permitting.

Roast veg and halloumi traybake. Works with whatever combination of veg you fancy adding.

Or. Roast some peppers, cut in half, stuff with halloumi, add lemon juice and chilli flakes, put back in oven or under grill.

Here's the Shakshuka recipe again as I don't think the link worked https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/redpepperrandauberginee84745

Pasta bake in the oven?
Stew in oven?
Kleftiko in oven
Pilau rice and curry in oven?
Are there any instant noodles that are like a pot noodle that just need a boiled kettle?

BinkyBeaufort · 04/09/2024 19:58

Having spent 5 months with only a kettle and a microwave, we managed on ready meals, canned stuff and salads. Not madly healthy obviously, but I did lose half a stone due to portion sizes, so not all bad news.

Get a plug in portable hob. And once the gas hob is connected, you can use the portable one alongside the bbq in the garden. Mine came from Lidl, but ikea, Lakeland and Robert Dyas sell them too.

Agree with getting a portable hob, I got one for about £20 on Amazon and it was a life saver for us when we had no cooker/hob. Otherwise fresh pasta cooks ok in the microwave

We bought a portable hot plate when our kitchen was redone. Worth its weight in gold

Daniki · 04/09/2024 22:46

Thanks guys, we've no microwave either 😂 I might get a portable hob as I'm getting so sick of baked potatoes.
Have the bored of lunch slow cooker book, thank god it has great recipes! But found the pasta really weird texture using it so would avoid the pasta again.
Good shout in the lasagne going mince in slow cooker tho, never occurred to me! @needhelpwiththisplease
