I've organised a surprise party for my parents 45th anniversary. Does anyone have ideas on a party dish that people can help themselves to? I've got some sandwiches and salad but want something else to that's a bit different but filling.

Something tart like? Either a sheet of puff pastry topped with roasted veg and Parmesan, a fritata or a quiche?
Or cook and slice a piece of meat - beef/gammon/chicken or a side of salmon.

Sausage rolls
These are good if you're making them yourself

If you can decide whether you're doing finger food or fork food that will help narrow the options. With a big group I'd favour finger food, especially if people might have to eat without being sat at a table.

For a recent party I did antipasti skewers - baby tomato, mini mozzarella ball and olive on a mini skewer. Or you could do variations with e.g. salami. Quick, easy and high impact.

Something warm maybe like a pizza, a chilli, or paella, a quiche/pie etc
