Beetroot, can I just say that I've just seen the Canadian War Memorial at Vimy Ridge.Am I right in thinking the female statue was based on your grandmother?
It was extraordinarily beautiful (unlike the British monument at Thiepval!)
Is/was she Canadian?

Beetroot · 18/04/2008 12:50

yes it is my grandmother

she was a 19 year old dancer in London and was asked to model for it.

Frisee, blue cheese and walnut salad.
Beetroot in minty vinaigrette with fetta and walnuts
Roasted peppers with fetta and capers
Gazpacho
Prawns (shell and tail on) and aioli

moondog · 18/04/2008 12:53

Endives better than frisee actually.

Pate and toast with a onion jelly, quick easy and goes with your meat dish.

I've done a simple starter before of rocket leaves, crispy bacon and strawberries. Had to replace bacon with gouda once for a veggie but it is great, not too heavy (with a substantial main course) and not too expensive. You need good strawbs tho, the spanish ones are just coming in.
Or agree with Poise, make (or buy) a quick terrine/pate. Serve with homemade tomato bread.
