Hey. My little boy is 18mo now and still won’t chew his food. He has textured food but very sloppy and I spoon feed him. He also takes forever to eat his dinner if I give him finger foods. I allow an hour and sometimes we only manage 1 nugget and maybe an alphabite but if I am to spoon feed him he will eat a full mean and a pudding. I know he knows how to feed himself and how to chew his food but I’m stressing out at why he spits out food if it’s say chicken pie he’ll spit the chicken out last night he was spitting the spaghetti out of his spaghetti bolognaise. In laws keep telling me how he should be sitting up and eating little tomatoes and sandwiches and things and my nephew will literally eat anything in sight within a few seconds you’d think he’d never been fed 🤣 so I’m also constantly comparing him to other babies. I can’t keep feeding him baby food surely. Can I? I can’t even remember what my other 2 were like and what I did. Am I been lazy and feeding him too much? Is there something wrong with him? Please tell me he will do it one day and I’m not going to be feeding a 16yo 😩

It sounds like he can’t chew finger foods because you haven’t given him a chance to practice. If he just eats one chicken nugget and 1 potato wedge in an hour, that’s totally fine. That’s a perfectly adequate meal size for a young toddler who is likely eating fruit and yoghurt in between meals and having a cup of milk or two a day. You don’t need to be shovelling in a certain amount. Just let him play and explore.
