So far I've got Brekky - eggs, toast crumpets fruit juice and yoghurt
Lunch make your own rolls lots of salad, cheese , cold meats for everyone else and maybe tinned tuna/salmon for her.
Dinner - spaghetti puttanesca, fettucine with dill/cream/salmon ; salad ( huge 😁) and sourdough bread. brie?
Coffee/tea with amaretti homemade bikkies . Maybe snickerdoodles as well.
Does that sound ok? Ta
It's the first time hosting my sons new girlfriend. I have to clean the house completely ( have a stuffed foot) and am going to try to do that all Friday. It is not going to be clean. Damn.

This all sounds lovely. I have a pescatarian 'DIL' and generally just do vegetarian/fish dishes for everyone when she's with us, rather than doing something different for her - she's always very appreciative.

thedevilinablackdress · 22/08/2024 07:46

My advice would be to not overdo the fish angle. I'm pescatarian, but that means my diet is mainly vegetarian and vegan dishes, with fish occasionally.

Travellingraspberry · 22/08/2024 07:56

All sounds yummy. I'm intrigued as to what snickerdoodles are?!

BigDahliaFan · 22/08/2024 08:23

It's not bbq whether we are ....but frozen salad on the bbq is very easy.

maslinpan · 22/08/2024 08:23

Menu sounds lovely, but I am giving you permission to NOT clean the entire house, she's not going to give you a certificate for tidiness, is she?

Sounds delicious 🤭

I wouldn’t go crazy with the fish. Just because she does eat fish doesn’t mean she wants to eat it every meal. Just do lovely cheeses (make sure they are vegetarian) and vegetarian fillings for rolls and salads for lunch. Then fish for everyone for dinner.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 22/08/2024 15:40

I'd drop the tinned tuna or salmon at lunch. Just do a couple of choices of cheese or egg or egg mayo.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 22/08/2024 15:41

Just realised you have eggs for breakfast. How about smashed avo?

MavisPennies · 22/08/2024 15:43

Sounds lovely!

I would definitely forget the tinned tuna / salmon. Unless they’re a luxury version from

The Tinned Fish Market.

(Supermarket tinned fish is not a treat.)

But what’s lacking from your menu (if it’s going to be more than just a couple of meals) is any sort of wholefood. I’m pescetarian and at home my meals consist mostly of vegetables and something like split peas / beans / quinoa / lentils / sometimes wholemeal pasta. Rice or potatoes less often. Then the best tinned fish I can find, or fresh fish ordered from a fishmonger. And cheese from a cheese shop. And organic / biodynamic wine …

If she’s likely to be a long term fixture, or even if you just like to eat well, acquaint yourself with:

Hodmedods and

Pesky Fish

so she never goes home hungry. Grin

pinkflamingo83 · 22/08/2024 16:18

I would agree with the posts about not having fish at every meal. I was previously vegetarian and now eat fish and chicken, but my diet is mostly veggie.
Could I suggest houmous as a sandwich filling? Also agree with smashed avo as per a PP. And maybe a meal with salmon and potatoes / wedges / rice / couscous plus veg / salad for the evening.
As for the cleaning, hoover and do the essentials. And know that if this relationship works out, son's new girlfriend will be running round cleaning before your arrival for years to come. You are a very kind Mum / potential MIL to be trying so hard - remember she will be more nervous than you!

A very belated thanks to all. It all went well. Did do the puttanesca, but had avo, tomatoes , and spreads with toasted sourdough for brekky then we went to a cafe for lunch.

An American sort of slice with a sweet cinnamon flavour. Easy and delicious!
