Out of date fish cakes

Just discovered that my favourite fresh fish cakes are out of date by three days - use by date of 17th Aug.

If I cook them for lunch will they be ok?

Just hate wasting food / throwing it away!

I wouldn't risk fish tbh, not by 3 days.

Aren’t most fish cakes 70% potato and crumb anyway? Depending on the brand and just how much fish, they’d probably be okay. Give them a sniff and fry the hell out of them.

I'm very lax about dates-but not fish. No idea whether this is rational or not...

marylou25 · 20/08/2024 09:17

I'm extremely easy going about dates but not fish, oily fish like salmon last better but white fish goes off very fast so I wouldn't eat them. Smell should be a good indication.

If they smell okay, and they've been refrigerated the whole time, I wouldn't hesitate, tbh!

Copperoliverbear · 21/08/2024 02:06

I wouldn't with fish.

Georgyporky · 21/08/2024 18:46

I'd normally say smell & see - but not fish.
Throw them away

Not with fish
