I really fancy scallops for dinner but I just can’t think what to do with them. How do you cook/eat yours?

I do something like this but I love garlic so crush a couple of cloves and leave them in the ‘sauce’

Risotto www.telegraph.co.uk/recipes/0/scallop-risotto-recipe/

Oodles of butter, bacon and/or black pudding and some watercress/salad leaves. Had them with julienned Granny Smith apple as well in a pub once which was really tasty too.

Crusty bread to mop up the butter.

SafariShoes · 13/08/2024 13:21

Thank you. Black pudding sounds delicious but DH wouldn’t touch it. Perhaps bacon is the way to go

I make pea puree and crispy bacon, pan fry the scallops and guzzle with relish..I love scallops. 😋

BigDahliaFan · 13/08/2024 13:40

Usually do queenies, small scallops, with bacon, cream and garlic and a splosh of vermouth or white wine.

Or put them in a stirfry with ginger, spring onions, garlic, basil, coriander, and veg of choice and some soy sauce. Bit of chilli too...

BigDahliaFan · 13/08/2024 13:40

I've had them in restaurants before grilled in the shell with pesto dobbed on top of them...very nice. Bit of crispy bacon on the side and some pea puree...

BunfightBetty · 13/08/2024 13:44

Spanish style with chorizo, garlic, white wine or Chinese style with garlic, spring onion, rice wine, soupcon of soy.

Droolylabradors · 13/08/2024 13:45

We have them plain with black pudding and chorizo in small chunks in the same pan and pesto pasta on the side.

Cook them on a frying pan, and lay them like a clock face. Once you've got back to '12' you turn them all over again and they are cooked.

Oh god these all sound fantastic. I might do one suggestion a week until DH realises I’ve lost the plot

I just cook them on a chargrill pan and sprinkle them with a little sea salt then enjoy them unadulterated. I've done all sorts with them over the years but actually I just prefer them on their own. They don't need any faffing about with.

NatureofSociety · 13/08/2024 14:35

No help, but just wanted to say I bloody love scallops.

squishee · 13/08/2024 14:36

Wrapped in bacon, skewered and baked, like Angels on horseback.

StiffyByngsDogBartholomew · 13/08/2024 14:42

Are these supermarket tiny scallops or scallops with the coral on from the fishmonger ? Because I definitely would be even less likely to faff about with big, meaty scallops.

Proper big meaty ones

Same here for the biggies - don't want their expensive flavour swamped.

I use the small ones in stir-fries, risottos, etc.
And they make a good addition to a bacon sarnie for brekky.

This sandwich information is entirely new to me. I might have to buy the tiny ones to try now

My DH wooed me with scallops in a saffron cream sauce, we've had it again over the years and it's gorgeous.

Omg I really want a bacon and scallop and black pudding sandwich!

MonsteraMama · 14/08/2024 11:58

Seared to perfection in brown butter. Simple and gorgeous. I like them with a parmesan Risotto if it's chilly, or a Thai spicy peanut salad if it's hot.
