I tend to use-
The best mince from our local butcher
Chunky carrots
Grated butternut squash or parsnips
Leeks
Spring onions
Vegetable stock
Chopped tomatoes
Sage
Black pepper
A good splash of Hendersons Relish

And Maris pipers with butter and milk and a pinch of nutmeg

Then a very small amount of mild cheddar on top.

Usually served with peas and green beans and lashings of onion gravy.

Crikey, makes mine look really cheap...

Lean mince, oxo, onion, teaspoon of tomato puree, splash of worstershire, and a tin of heinz baked beans. Beans are essential .

Topped with mashed potato with butter and milk, but nothing else.

And no cheese will def add some next time, don't know why i hadn't thought of it though.

Now, my nan insists that I add some of those instant tea granules when I make it at hers (she's a blimin good cook but very ill so now supervises from the corner!!). Can't say that I knew what this achieved but the result was still yummy.

Mine is made with

Minced beef

diced carrot
diced celery (one stick)
worcestershire sauce (or hendersons relish)
tomato puree
beef stock
chopped parsley

Mashed potato on the top made with milk and butter and then cheese on the top of that.

We used left over roast beef, left over gravy, onions, carrots, Worcestershire sauce, tomato sauce, mash with a few leeks on top.

Ditto for shepherds pie but with left over lamb.
