I've been blethering about eating less meat, so my friend has taken me at my word and just given me these two books.

Which recipes should I try first, bearing in mind I need to convert meat-and-two-veg DH to the joys of occasionally eating veggie?

mushroom moussaka in EBF (I think or at least in one of the moosewood books) is nice and 'meaty' for non veggies, iirc (long time lapsed!)

ooh, thanks Rolypole.

Both books are good - check out oxfam book shops & you should be able to pick up a cranks one, or else try your library.

I've got the low fat moosewood, I like it !

From EBF -

Avocado and Cashew Enchiladas
Sweet Potato Pie with Poppyseed Cheese Crust
Russian Carrot Pie
Frijoles con queso etc. casserole
Vegetable Upside-Down Cake
Broccoli and Tofu in Spicy Peanut Sauce

are among my favourites. My copy is extremely well used and falling to bits - I've had it 18 years and am still using it.

Which Cranks book have you got? The old Canter, Canter & Swann or one of the new Nadine Abensur ones?

Mojomummy · 30/04/2008 21:57

I've got an old cranks book - all the photos look a bit brown, but taste delicious ! Have also got 2 of the Nadine Abensur ones.

Homity pie in the Cranks one is good so I recall, esp if you're trying the recipes out on confirmed meat-eaters. Their Cauli soup recipe was also gorge, I remember... must dig book out and look up some recipes!

Hallgerda · 01/05/2008 19:59

lovecat, is that Seventies or Noughties Homity Pie? The new version doesn't have pastry.

lovecat · 02/05/2008 15:35

My version must be from the 70's, has pastry in it! (I had no idea they'd updated, my cookbook was bought in the 80's...)

thanks for all of these - the enchiladas sound delicious, so that might be the next one we try.
