I made this with the DC recently. Easy and they liked it.

Rocky Road?

Flapjacks?

Brownies?

Brownies and Rocky Road you can change ingredients to make different flavours once you’ve mastered the basic recipe.

DD and I make these regularly. She does need help chopping up the chocolate though.

she's also learning how to make waffles and use the waffle machine.

Hi

Flapjacks and brownies is a good shout

I like the cheese cake recipe but I think it might be a bit much for them to do without adult help. I really want simple recipes that children can follow
@IdLikeToBeAFraser could I get chocolate chips instead of cutting the chocolate?

This is a super easy chocolate cake for young bakers. My youngest DD baked it in 8" pans and filled it with stabilised whipped cream for my birthday the year she was 9. It was lovely.

I highly recommend you get a set of American cup and spoon measures (they're quite inexpensive online) for your aspiring baker, not just because using volume measurements is easy, but also because American recipe sites have a wealth of easy recipes and don't always have a converter tool.

If you can beg or borrow a pasta machine ours loved it. Really simple, really messy, like playdough only edible.

I don't see why not. I'd make sure they have a high chocolate content because you need them to remain gooey in chocolate spots rather than just melting into the cookies. But yes, good quality baking chocolate chips feels like a great alternative to me <wanders off to see what she can buy online for next time herself>

Have they done the cream butter/sugar thing together before? Because DD can do it alone now but she did need help the first few times, mostly to make sure she did it properly and didn't stop after only 2 minutes.

Pancakes!

2 ingredient donut holes - google them, it’s yoghurt and flour (and sugar and oil but that’s the name of the recipe) they’re SO good and definitely something to do WITH kids; not let them do on their own!

Lemon drizzle

Energy balls (not baking but combining, and lots of flavours to try)

Nanaimo bars are fun to make a delicious!

Foccaccia

It does look like there are lots of options. We use 70% dark chocolate because DD is dairy intolerant (and we swap the butter for stork) but it does look like if you don't mind a bit of milk in your chocolate chips, there are loads of options for baking chips. I'm going to keep digging to see what I can find for DD that's dairy free - she'd love to be able to just use chips.

Energy balls is a good shout, thanks

We often make savoury things for variety. Cheese scones, mini cheddar style biscuits or homemade pizza dough are popular here.
