Heinz a very inferior brand and a rip off

There are more people that have woken up to discover Heinz products are not brilliant products and complete rip offs.

I find all Heinz products not pleasant at all. Beans - loads of bean skins and sauce is ikky. Ketchup - too acidic. Soup too salty and unpleasant after taste.

Heinz soup is £1.70 a can when its not on offer - a bloody rip off when supermarket own version I can buy 3 cans of theirs for about another 30-40p more and much nicer.

I reckon many who buy Heinz products have never bought and tried cheaper alternatives. The slogan "It has to be Heinz" are duping the ignorant to buy their inferior products.

Their mayonnaise is rubbish.

Oh I like the Mayonnaise but I actually prefer Tesco home brand Mayo.

There are only two good things from tins: Heinz beans, oh the irony, and anything with Mutti on it.

It’s all downhill from there.

What about coconut milk and tinned pulses?

TimeWheel · 13/07/2024 17:59

We have tried lots of other brands. We all prefer Heinz Beans, Heinz Ketchup and Heinz vegan salad cream, although I can't always get that. We don't eat tinned soups. My partner and son tried a couple of the Heinz pasta sauces and say they prefer them to other brands.

This is the part of MN where we start a whataboutery bun fight on a thread. 😆
No but you’re absolutely right! Tinned coconut milk, tinned black beans, oh and tinned sweet corn… all very 😋. There’s loads of tinned stuff that’s perfectly yummy. I’m not a big fan of tinned soups though.

saturnspinkhoop · 13/07/2024 18:04

I’m not a fan of Heinz beans at all. Used to love their tomato soup, but had it last year for the first time in ages and it was horrible. I make my own baked beans.

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 13/07/2024 18:09

I think they're coasting on their good reputation and their new pasta sauces aren't very good.

Their ketchup is my favourite but I do want to try Mr Organic, their pasta sauces are better.

seensome · 13/07/2024 18:22

I used to eat Heinz tomato soup, but since I've had a health condition, I steer away from anything tinned and processed, homemade tomato soup, worth the effort, tastes better and more nutritious. Occasionally I've have a small teaspoon of Sainsbury's organic mayo, I don't bother with branded things as it's not necessarily any nutritionally better but try to stick to organic.

Don't like beans but the boy loves Branston. M and S basic sauce and ketchup are also a favourite.

Liv999 · 13/07/2024 18:28

Heinz tomato ketchup is awful, Chef is the best hands down

Crushedcandy · 13/07/2024 18:39

I had a craving a few days ago for a tin of tomato soup. I’ve not had it for ages. I was shocked to see the Heinz tin was £1.70. I took the Tesco own brand at 1/3 of the price. It was really good. Perhaps not as vividly coloured as Heinz but it tasted the same to me.

I stopped buying Heinz beans years ago. M&S are my favourite at 25p for a small can. Tesco own brand beans are really nice as well.

Dr13Hadley · 13/07/2024 19:09

My mum advised me to switch to Branston beans from Heinz a few years ago and I've not looked back. Heinz beans has runny sauce and not enough actual beans!

M&S reduced sugar ketchup is £1 and is nicer than Heinz.

StMarieforme · 13/07/2024 20:02

You think this. Others don't. It's that simple.

TheBizzies · 13/07/2024 20:07

Heinz beans are the only ones that give me stomach cramps. I now buy the M&S ones and they're fine. Lidl tomato sauce is great as well I find but I'm no connoisseur-I only stopped buying Heinz as it was so watery

Dh has had a complete fixation over Heinz stuff being better ever since we got married. I think this is due to his mum always insisting they are. Plus he has a very sweet tooth (puts at least 2 tbsp sugar on a bowl of porridge 😳) so he has shit judgement over things like sugar levels in food. Unsurprisingly he prefers brands full of it like Heinz.

in a blind tasting he could not pick out the Heinz ketchup and indeed never noticed until I told him very smugly, during another v own brand discussion, that I had been refilling the Heinz bottle with sainsbury's ketchup for several months without him noticing.

however he has now reached the conclusion that due to the rising price he was prepared to concede that the price of Heinz baked beans and ketchup (the only things I bought anyway) was now too high to justify the price as I asked him if he thought paying over triple the price of Sainsbury's was worth it.

so in short, if my Dh with his staunchly pro-Heinz views has stopped buying it, I'm sure many people out there in a worse financial position than us have made the same choices.

he also likes Heinz tomato soup, well I just add an extra spoon of sugar to my homemade soup for him 😝. I just don't understand how anyone thinks it's nicer, I think it tastes vile but then my very anti-brand mum would never in a million years have bought Heinz stuff or tinned soup so I guess much of it is influenced by the tastes you grew up with .

If you've got a food processor the hairy bikers mayonnaise is literally made in a flash and SO easy you'll never buy another jar. Just eggs, veg oil, mustard, lemon juice and a spot of sugar. It also lasts well in the fridge.

Topseyt123 · 13/07/2024 21:13

I would buy Branston baked beans rather than Heinz. Lovely, and the sauce is good, thick and very tomatoey (if I can make that a word).

I don't mind most supermarket home brands either. I recently had co-op baked beans, which were surprisingly good.

DelilahBucket · 13/07/2024 21:19

I didn't start to dislike the taste of all Heinz products, but I did the price. Everything has been swapped to M&S now, much cheaper and excellent quality.

PieonaBarm · 14/07/2024 19:55

I like the Mulligatawny soup, BBQ Sauce and salad cream. Used to be Heinz Beans only but prefer Branston now. Will happily have Aldi Salad Cream and the BBQ sauce tastes the same to me. I don't do ketchup/mayo/brown sauce but DH does and says Aldi is perfectly acceptable. The Mulligatawny and Tomato Soup is the only Heinz things I buy now - and I'm from Wigan where Heinz loyalty is huge (the main factory is there!)
