Buying good quality meat online

There are now no butchers near us and supermarket meat is rubbish.

Can anyone please recommend a butcher, or farm, which is good quality (but not like Tom Hixon) and delivers meat boxes which you can configure yourself?

Dave Waller of Ledbury. We visit in person because we are regularly in Ledbury, but they do excellent mail order. We love their apple & Ledbury cider sausages, steak and ale pie, and gammon steaks particularly, but all their meat is excellent - had a glorious piece of lamb from them last weekend.

You can pick whatever you want, but they do do value packs.

This looks like a really good find-thank you!

@TwigTheWonderKid you probably need to know about:

Farms to feed us

Scroll down to the database. It covers not just meat (which I don’t eat) but every possible food grown and produced in the UK - plus coffee beans and iirc wine.

It’s slightly life changing knowledge. For the last several years I’ve ordered fruit and vegetables, wholefoods, fish, bread, cheese, wine, coffee beans, all from separate sources. Almost no fresh food comes with my Ocado delivery now, and I rarely enter any supermarket unless I’m away from home.

Hope you find it helpful.

@AndYesTheWeeDonkeys thank you, that looks great.

Field and flower. Able and Cole. Both are very good.

In autumn, FF do amazing venison and juniper sausages 😍

It’s a pleasure. Though I should have added that the database is best viewed on a laptop or something larger - but fiddly to see across the whole page on a phone.

(NB I have no connection to the site or any of the producers.)

I do have a relative who occasionally phones me purely to enthuse (for hours) over the various merits of Field & Flower v Riverford v a couple of others I don’t recall as suppliers of meat. I counter with endless recipes for split peas and spelt flour. Have to say, venison is one of the few things I miss from my carnivorous days!

Donald Russell is really nice and they have a code for 25% off your first order. I know it's not meat but the alpine fries are so yummy.

Donald Russell? Yes, that was one of the other names!

I've been looking for something like this, thank you!

Field and Flower are excellent. Pricey but excellent.

Clockface222 · 07/09/2025 14:51

If anyone is still interested I have an offer code for Field and Flower for £25 off a £50 order
