When I was a little girl, my mum’s best friend (who was Maltese) was back and too between the countries.
Every time she came back to England she would bring me the same treat.

I LOVED it so much. I have no idea what it was and so have never been able to find it and have no way of finding out through her. My mum doesn’t recall it.

I will describe as very best I can! …

it was in a small plastic rectangular tub (perhaps the size of a paté) and had a little takeaway spoon with it . It was sweet but not too much almost like a nutty taste. It was very pale beige in colour. It’s the consistency I have trouble describing as it’s like nothing else I can think of. Sort of maybe really really dried up peanut butter or choccy spread? When it goes stiff and crumbles a bit. It’s tough ish to get on the spoon and slightly chewy. It’s kept in the fridge. It has no bits in it just a one flavour, one colour, one consistency sweet nutty thick paste that was the yummiest thing ever 😭😭

anyone at all out there that could stab a guess??

thanks!!!! ♥️

It is Helwa.

It is a flaky, almondy like a rough paste and absolutely delicious.
So more-ish, I can taste it now.

Here is a recipe, looks like it is made from Tahini - which makes sense.

Ħelwa tat-Tork (Maltese Halva) - Apron & Whisk (apronandwhisk.com)

Ħelwa tat-Tork (Maltese Halva) - Apron & Whisk

A true classic, this Ħelwa tat-Tork is a sweet decadently rich treat made from sugar and tahini with a crumbly yet soft texture.

Oh OP, you've been this state of anguish all these years and it was so easily solved! 😋

Just read the recipe and Helwa sounds amazing!

Almonds are high in calcium so it's a health food no?
