Where can I find that cheap/fake crabstick seafood mayo mix?

I used to get this delish bagel from the station near work. It was filled to the brim with a seafood/crabstick mayonnaise mix. The whole thing was probably very processed. I'm sure the deli didn't make it themselves and I feel like they bought a vat of it. Sometimes the same stuff is in California sushi rolls.

I've not been back since lockdown as I ended up getting married, got a new job, moved location and the biggest change was having a baby which means I just can't venture into the city as easily anymore. But I am craving it so much!

Does anyone know what I'm talking about and where I might be able to buy it?

TIA x

You could make it. It's pretty easy.

Do you have the recipe then? I'm sure the OP would appreciate it.

They have it in larger supermarkets in the sandwich filling pot section. Not bought any recently but definitely in the last year or two

Alternatively you can make your own - mix mayo, ketchup and a little cayenne pepper or paprika (to taste) first the sauce and shred crab sticks, available fresh or frozen from large supermarkets

Just mix crabsicks cut up with seafoood sauce

MonsteraMama · 17/06/2024 14:42

I make my own. Shred crab sticks with forks, roughly chop some pre cooked prawns and maybe a couple of spring onions, dollop of kewpie mayo (or just normal mayo if you can't get kewpie) and then flavour additive of choice - bit of sriracha or wasabi, pinch of paprika, little splash of lemon juice or mirin, bit of ginger or garlic or both, whatever you fancy.

Sorry. I went to look it up then had a bit of an emergency. Looks like she's well informed now.

I make it loads, I buy ocean sticks which are very often reduced, shred them and freeze them then mix with a bit of seafood mayo, cocktail prawns and some paprika. If you get a bakery roll too it feels like a real treat

Ooh thanks x

What does the freezing part do? Or rather why does it need to be frozen?

I buy loads at a time when they are reduced then freeze them chopped up so I can just grab out a handful for one sandwich (I'm the only one that eats it)

Sainsbury's seafood sandwich filler 😋
