Easy, savoury, high protein breakfasts

Want to try being consistent with a savoury, high protein breakfast for a while to see if it helps me beat my cravings throughout the day. Just looking for some quick and easy ideas if anyone has them.

I do like eggs which is handy as I know that will come up often, but wouldn’t mind some different ideas too.

I tend to either skip breakfast (which is fine sometimes and other times leads to me going at the snack cupboard like a feral beast) or have something sweet - porridge with fruit, yoghurt with fruit, baked oats etc. Which seems to set me on a path of just wanting sweet stuff all day.

Savoury porridge metro.co.uk/2023/01/30/how-to-nail-savoury-porridge-a-tasty-alternative-to-overnight-oats-18179294/ , beans on toast or avocado and cottage cheese on toast.

Heck chicken sausages, you can pre cook and eat cold with cherry tomatoes or other veg

I found that once I stopped thinking of it as Breakfast and more as a lunch-type meal, a whole world of savoury breakfasts opened up - sandwiches, things on toast, even egg fried rice!

BobbyBiscuits · 17/06/2024 14:40

How about a med/Turkish type breakfast.
Olives, feta, cucumber, cherry toms, plain yoghurt with mint, and pitta? Maybe a bit of hummus or babaganoush? It can be like a brunch type meal to maybe mean you wouldn't need a big lunch?

Some great ideas thank you! I was really struggling to get past ‘eggs and something’!

Besan Chilla, it's a savoury pancake made with gram flour.

My favourite is a bacon & avocado sarnie.
Bacon takes c.2 minutes in a mic - just enough time to smother the bread in mayo & prep the avo.

Another user started a thread about chaffles a few weeks ago...

I'm not a huge egg fan but I adore these and they're so quick/filling. I put avocado on top and some sliced tomatoes.

I batch cook various egg muffins in Yorkshire pudding tins

Spinach & feta
Cheese & ham
Roasted veg
Mushroom & cheese

They fridge for a couple of days and freeze well

Also a big tortilla that I cut into wedges - eggs, bacon lardons, onions, potatoes (optional) & cheese

Sausage meat baked in ramekins - line them as though the sausage is pastry on the base & sides, bake for 10-15 mins (or air fry for 7/8) then add an egg in the middle and do 3 mins more

Baked tomatoes, peppers and sausage meat balls

Omelette wraps with veg, ham, sausage, mushrooms

I'm hungry now!

Surprisingly nice

Some great ideas on here thanks all. I used to do the egg muffins loads and had forgotten about those, and there’s loads of others I want to try!

Breakfast burritos are very adaptable depending what you have in and can be pre-made and frozen. You could also do breakfast quesadillas with beans, veg, eggs, cheese and jalapeños/salsa/guac if you fancy them

The recipe is from her latest book so it's not online sadly, they're made with chickpea flour and absolutely gorgeous!

Ah ok thanks anyway. Which book is her latest? I’ve just been looking and quite like the look of some of her recipes so might splash out.

It's the Healthy Made Simple One, would highly recommend, am obsessed with the Pesto and spinach Orzo in there too! And her porridge recipes are 😋

Porridge with peanut butter and some seeds in it was my go too when I had gestational diabetes

medianewbie · 18/06/2024 16:43

No offerings sorry but here for ideas.

MiddleAgedDread · 19/06/2024 15:52

50g porridge oats blitzed to make a "flour"
25g plain protein powder
1 egg
100ml milk
pinch of salt and cinnamon
Blend it all together and it's usually thick enough to make 3 decent sized scotch pancakes. Serve with greek yogurt, banana or berries and a drizzle of honey.

Workawayxx · 19/06/2024 15:56

I like an egg tortilla quiche thing - like this: https://www.fooddolls.com/egg-tortilla-recipe/. I tend to chop into 4 and have a quarter per day with some sriracha on top.

Not savoury exactly but doesn't have sugar in and berries are lowish in fruit sugars - greek yoghurt, frozen berries and vanilla protein powder, all mixed together and the berries sort of slightly chopped/mashed with the spoon (I sometimes add a splash of milk if it is a bit thick). The frozen berries make it sort of ice creamy.
