I use my mother's tried-and-tested "bung it in at 160c" method of cooking and take it out when it's done .

MerlinsBeard · 08/04/2008 12:33

180 maybe??

loucee · 08/04/2008 12:39

Thanks SD

I used 160 as my fan oven is a bit too strong for 180 baking

loucee · 08/04/2008 12:41

oh MOM i'll go for the middle at settle at 170!

Try here

Flier · 08/04/2008 12:43

gas mark 4 or 180. I had this problem too, as its not detailed on the recipe, but eventually found the temp when did a thread search.

Flier · 08/04/2008 12:45

oh, carmenere has linked to the recipe and its on it now .

Carmenere · 08/04/2008 12:49

Nope it is me who should be flier as I missed out the temp when I uploaded it.

Flier · 08/04/2008 12:50

its there now, which is great. I must go and make some now

Klaw · 08/04/2008 12:51

what size tray does everone use, and how deep?

I've made it a few times at half quantities.

The other day I tried using full quantity and got my tsp and tblsp mixed up when it came to the baking powder, My cake oozed Ectoplasm out all over the oven

I called Ghostbusters!

Still think I need a different tray.. wonder if mine is a bit shallow for full quantity...

...and discuss!

dizzydixies · 08/04/2008 12:52

I think my tray is 20 x 30 and deep - more of a tray bake than an over tray Klaw

Carmenere · 08/04/2008 12:54

I think mars herself uses a roasting tray, not sure of the size tbh. I will search it out.

Klaw · 08/04/2008 12:57

don't forget to get unwaxed lemons for the grating of...

Klaw · 08/04/2008 12:59

mine is only about 1" deep, and about 9 x 11"

SoupDragon · 08/04/2008 19:06

I make mine in 2 loaf tins!

uttertripe · 08/04/2008 19:17

i have the recipe mousemat right here.
has been here over a year.
have made it once.
doh.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 08/04/2008 19:19

180 or gas 4.

I may try the two loaf tins soupy - thanks

I have to finish off the tray-bake that I did the other day first though

loucee · 08/04/2008 22:23

thanks for all your messages. I used 170 in the end for 45 mins but it was a bit dry (although it tasted fantastic so will definitely use the recipe again). I went wrong with my temp in the beginning and the tin was too deep.
Good idea SD, a loaf tin is ideal
