I’m making a cod leek mushroom orzo dish from BBC Good Food that requires 300 g of orzo but I’ve only got about 240.
Shall I do some rice or pearl barley on the side or could I mix the orzo with pearl barley together to make the 300 g?

thanks in advance

I think I would use the 240g and try to bulk the meal out elsewhere.

longestday00 · 10/06/2024 17:57

I'd stick with what you've got.

PickAChew · 10/06/2024 17:58

Just use the 240g.

SonicTheHodgeheg · 10/06/2024 17:59

I would use 240g and bulk it up with some veg or something after the meal.

Add some peas

Catnipcupcakes · 10/06/2024 18:01

Seconding just using the 240g and bunging some frozen peas in.

Orzo is pasta so you could mix with other pasta. Broken spaghetti would do it. The others would have the wrong texture.

BobbyBiscuits · 10/06/2024 18:03

It will be fine like that, noone will notice the difference. And adding peas as someone said. Or broad beans, spinach, asparagus? Any other bit of veg but even without will still be great.

Use the orzo you have, if you feel you need extra carbs then make some breadcrumbs , fry them off in butter and use them as a topping.

Off to google the recipe, sounds nice ( and smug face emoticon I have orzo in the cupboard.!)

(just googled, I would use my own idea and put fresh buttered breadcrumbs on the cod halfway through cooking it)

Orzo is just small pasta so I'd smash up some pasta and make up the weight.

Musicaltheatremum · 10/06/2024 18:30

It serves 4 so 240g is more than enough. I find good food over estimates the amount of pasta you need.

Risotto rice?

Kindnesskindnesskindness · 10/06/2024 18:41

Thank you all for the speedy replies. I’ve used just what I had orzo wise and I’m doing aubergine chips as a side dish in case it’s not quite enough.
