Marlborough bun recipe doesn’t exist! Is it a secret?!

I have over 200 cookery books - I have looked in most, looked on the internet, asked around. Why is this a secret? Does anyone have a recipe? 😁

Is this the same or near abouts?

@cartreffi - yes and thanks - found lots of recipes for Bath but wondered what made Marlborough a bun in its own right 🙂

Marketing I imagine, a google tells me it didn't exist before 2010 so maybe that's why it's not in books.

Link would help!

We had it when we lived in London, on a Marlborough Road, from M&S because I was amused by the name! I googled it then, and it seems it was just made up by them. No real history behind it that I could find.

They sound a bit like Chelsea buns?

OP, we might be the same person. I have been enjoying Waitrose Marlborough buns for some time (I cut them in half and butter them because why not?) I searched for a recipe a while ago, didn’t find one and concluded that Waitrose had invented them but great to see from this thread that’s not the case!

@Scissorsisters and @cartreffi thank you for the recipes . Looks like something my DD would like to try.

MythicalMalboroughBuns · 02/06/2024 19:27

This has completely piqued my interest now! Still no actual recipe and an unknown origin - I will track down these buns!!!
Thank you all for the help and suggestions thus far.

The cracked sugar is the distinctive bit (and the shape - I think that it’s a bun that has a cross scored in it)

No recipe/never made them but have had from various bakeries around the UK as a child
