Friend and teenage daughter coming for tea, please give me ideas for food!

My lovely friend is coming for tea with her dd11 - so not actually a teenager!

I am out of ideas. Not lasagna because she is coming again another time and I promised to make it.

Has anyone any ideas, not too fancy but ‘nice’?

Chilli and curry are no’s as are homemade pizza because I did that last time.

Have you asked them what they'd like?

doodlejump1980 · 29/05/2024 22:03

Mexican fajitas with crudités and dips and cheesy nachos?

TheLadyIsAVamp · 29/05/2024 22:04

I'd probably do fajitas/tacos too. Other ideas bbq pulled pork in buns, kebab skewers/souvlaki, posh burgers or hot dogs. Lots of nice salads, slaws , dips etc, maybe some potato wedges too.

I would go Mexican for a small gathering, loads of dishes and so much choice, you can eat the bits that appeal and leave the bits that don’t!
It’s a lovely communal meal (quite faffy but Dh does it all and genuinely enjoys spending 4+ hours cooking a meal, I absolutely would not but I do love eating it all 😂).
we use a lot of Thomasina Myers recipes and I think it might have been Rick Stein who did a Road to Mexico book which also has some cracking recipes.

Chicken tray bake or roast chicken always go down well here.

pasta, with whatever sauce you like is a good, easy option.

risotto. We like butternut with chicken.

Soluckyinlove · 29/05/2024 22:16

A big risotto, either chicken or prawn and a salad.
My favourite crowd pleasing pudding is lemon meringue pie (Be-Ro book recipe).

Chicken Katsu curry was a big hit with family we hosted at the weekend. I served with rice, edamame and an Asian slaw. (I know you said not curry but Katsu isn't like regular Indian curries!)

Hi.
I can give you a link to the website with great recipes. On this website, I found some interesting articles that can be interesting for you.
By the way, you can try the button "Surprise me" and the service can give you some random recipe and if you don't like it you can just push it again

Bringonthesunforthewashing · 03/06/2024 13:23

Thank you all for your great ideas.

Unfortunately I have had to cancel due to a health condition (so pissed off!), but will revisit thread when I am able to rearrange 🤞🏻
