just having one of those baby/toddler feeding paranoia moments!

would be grateful if someone could please let me know if it's ok to give prawns to a 17m old? i'm sure it is but for some reason, there's a niggle at the back of my mind... maybe i'm confusing this with dietary restrictions during pregnancy?

thanks in advance

We do, in fact my 10 month old loves them!!

Seafood is fine for the discerning toddler from about a year, I believe. Our ds still won't eat squid, cannot imagine why. Yum.

I think they're fine bossykate. Prawn cocktail sandwiches are my daughter's staple diet!

Marina - my local Chinese does squid in satay sauce. My daughter has no idea what it is and it doesn't look to 'squiddy' but she loves it. Maybe you could try your lad on that?

SofiaAmes · 06/12/2002 13:08

yes. My ds has been eating prawns from about 12 mo. I don't give him squid yet as I am deathly allergic to it and I want to make sure he is old enough to tell me if he is feeling funny.

megg · 06/12/2002 13:23

My ds has been eating them straight from the freezer since he was about a year old. Frozen prawns yuk a peculiarity he gets from his father needless to say.

thank you very much for your replies

i lovingly made a delicious mix of prawns, mayonnaise, avocado and lemon juice for his highness this pm. spat it out. mummy tucked in enthusiastically, which encouraged more interest but more grimacing and faces ensued subsequently!

oh well, perseverance is the key i suppose!

thanks again for the advice

As a baby my mother took me to Spain to see friends. They'd assured her that she could get all kinds of babyfood. They got it wrong and I ended up eating anything and everything - and teething on calamari rings that my mum stuck on my fingers.

hi willow2, great story! my only consolation is that i was also a very fussy eater - not only in terms of content but would also only eat sitting on dad's lap, eating from his plate! so i'm only too aware where ds gets it from...

hope you are feeling better now and can make it to the next meet
