If you get milk delivered can you help me please?

We have started having problems with a bird or cat getting into out milk (it's delivered in glass bottles with the foil tops). I am looking for ideas of something cheap and easy to put the milk into to or cover it with to stop this happening. I'm using a big cool box at the moment but don't really want it sitting out all night all the time.

Upended egg cups work. Just leave them on the empty ones and ask your milkman to put them on top of the bottles he delivers.

thats a good idea, I like that. Cheap, doesn't take up much space, shouldn't be too much faff for milkman. Thanks for that. I'd never have thought of that. Presumably the birds aren't clever enough to knock them off? I suspect ours could be magpies.
All I'd come up with was puting an ice cream tub upside down over the top but thought I'd end up knocking a bottle over as I lifted up the box.

Anyone have any other good ideas that work?

Ours leaves our bottles tucked just under the front of our car. It's actually to keep them out of sight because we had milk stolen a while ago but it keeps the birds off too. Or some sort of box on its side so that one side acts as a roof. It would need to be big enough for the bottles to fit in but not so big that a bird could get on top of the bottles.

We used to put a small but thick piece of wood on the top of all the bottles

Ask the milkman to shut the gate on his way out so the birds can't get in...

My parents used to have a milk-bottle holder where the handle sort of covered all the lids - the handle had a big X shaped piece under it IYSWIM You could then pick it up by the handle to take in indoors. Probably came from Lakeland or somewhere like that...

My grandmother used to use upended cans.

I use my red re-cycling box and put on the doorstep - the milkman slips the milk in behind the red bin. it stops the birds seeing the milk bottle.

you can actually buy a little insulated box with a lid from the milk man. it is pricey though. Much cheaper to buy a solid cool box and leave it outside

we have a cat - that seems to work - never lost a bottle in 12 years

I get milk delivered in cartons and the crows peck it to bits. I was using a box but the milkman seems to be unable to read anymore......he leaves it on top of the box

What can I do? The crows never bothered when the mornings were dark. I need a wire, see through, thing that has a lid. I've been searching the catalogues.......

You can buy little plastic caps to put on the top of milk bottles - maybe Betterware or Lakeland. This only seems to be a problem at certain types of year, as it's usually the birds.

thanks everyone. Think I'll go for egg cups or yoghurt pots (although I do wonder if they'd be light enough to be knocked off, not sure how clever the birds are).

frumpygrumpy I'm not sure what your best solution is. Obviously a box is the best but only any good if they put it in it. When our milkman didn't put the milk in the coolbox one day I phoned up Dairycrest and told them and they gave us 2 free the next time and said they'd tell the milkman to put it in the box. Mind you I still had to go to a shop to buy milk for that day.
