Got my sister and pal coming over in a couple of weeks and I'm planning on making homemade sausages rolls, feta tortilla "tarts" and crispy potato salad. I've linked the recipes below to give you and idea of what they are.
What else would you serve. Don't fancy a salad as we'll just be sitting round the coffee table eating rather than at a table setting. I was thinking giant cous cous salad but not sure that's their kind of thing!
I'll have the usual crisp, dips, nuts etc as well but I hate the thought of not cooking enough!
I'm vegetarian, they're not but I'm happy to make something meat based for them.

ROASTED ONION (TORTILLA) TART

This simple tart took only a matter of minutes to throw together, which was all I had when it came time for lunch. (I had been wanting to eat something savory and cheesy, but not heavy.) You can certainly make this only for yourself, though I think mak...

Pardon peppers
Crudités & dips

OnHerSolidFoundations · 15/04/2024 14:32

Olives

Instead of a salad - Carrot sticks , tomatoes , pepper slices etc are easy to pick and nibble

TakeOnFlea · 15/04/2024 14:51

I don't think you need the sausage rolls and cous cous.

The tart, potato salad and a green salad will be fine. Plus olives, crisps, and nuts

kelsaycobbles · 15/04/2024 14:54

Oh sausage rolls are much the nicest thing !

LaviniasBigBloomers · 15/04/2024 15:03

The last time I was at a similar sort of night we pretty much had what you're suggesting (I wouldn't do the cous cous though, it's so fiddly to eat if you're sitting around).

Then around 930 host put a baked camembert and an M&S hot cheese dip thingy on the table with crudites, crackers and some chilli jam. Crowd went wild.

mondaytosunday · 15/04/2024 15:39

I'd definitely want a salad with that. Could get away with crudités I guess. I love sushi (odd add with the rest maybe) and cous cous too.

Plump82 · 15/04/2024 15:44

Hmm. I now have visions of waking up the next day with cous cous everywhere!! Will definitely get olives. @Pallisers I like the idea of a chopped salad as that should be easier to eat. Or as others have suggested, some crudités. Id love to do padron peppers but there's no way I'd find the right peppers for that in my neck of the wood sadly.

I might do the sausage rolls for later on in the evening. And leave out the sushi.

@LaviniasBigBloomers I had a similar hot cheese thing from Tesco which was absolutely delicious but I think those kind of things are only around at Christmas. I'll check the M&S foodhall though.

Looks nice but everything is quite stodgy, so I think a simple side salad would lighten things up a bit. It’s also quite a lot for just the three of you.

If it’s coffee table eating, how about crudities, a couple of dips, olives, a focaccia, roasted vegetables, and the tart? All can be just eaten with a fork and picked out through the evening.

Plump82 · 15/04/2024 15:55

My husband will be there too but relegated to the bedroom! The tortillas tart things are made with mini tortillas so not big at all. I don't think that, potato salad and a chopped salad it's particularly stodgy.

Add sausage roll and cous cous and it is. If you're a veggie why the sausage rolls? The tart and salads will be fine

Plump82 · 15/04/2024 17:25

Sausage rolls can be vegetarian...

Oh ok 🤣 I thought sausages were pig.

They still don't go with potato salad though

Plump82 · 15/04/2024 21:30

I use vegetarian sausages to make them. But agreed they don't go with potato salad and are off the menu!
