I once made a cheesy vegetable bake with kale and taleggio - bunged it into the oven and took myself off for a shower. Came out of the shower to a vicious olfactory assault and shut the window to what I thought must have been some oddly timed muck spreading.

No.

That was my dinner.

Never - NEVER - mix kale and taleggio.

Gnocchi. The potatoes dropped and I basically made wild garlic wallpaper paste.

I once bought what I thought was an apple turnover pastry type thing so heated it and poured custard over it. Turned out the filling was cheese not apple.

When I was about 17 I tried to made a banana and brocolli (!!) curry, I think it was something I’d seen a recipe for somewhere but I didn’t have a copy so I just tried to make the recipe up, kept adding different spices and I managed to make it really bitter and then i tried to add sugar and lemon juice to balance it out which really didn’t help. It was awful but worst thing was my mum had told me before I started that banana doesn’t go in curry plus I’d never be able to make a curry without a recipe and so I had to pretend I was really happy with it and eat it to save face. I’d made a ridiculous amount as well but after one small portion froze the rest of it under the guise I would eat it another day wfh h obviously I never did.

We have recently acquired a soup maker. The first few attempts went well, but then we tried a spinach and watercress soup and added too much veg, and too much onion and garlic. So it was too full and consequently didn’t mix ir cook properly. All I could taste was raw onion and garlic, it was overpoweringly bitter- I have never tasted anything so horrible. We tried to doctor it but it was unsalvageable and we to chuck the lot.

I tried slow cooking ox tongue - I marinaded it overnight and continued slow cooked it for hours because it just didn't taste right every time I tried it - I've no idea if or how it could be cooked to taste like something edible but honestly the taste and texture was like nothing I've ever had in my life - it was revolting, didn't even try giving it to the dog - straight in the bin. I'd only tried because a friend said they had had it at a Hungarian/Romanian(?) restaurant and it was delicious.

I love liver done in the slow cooker - I do that regularly - so I thought I'd try it.

Trying to clear the fridge, I made a bacon and hummus sandwich. It was strangely unpleasant.

Northernsouloldies · 14/04/2024 01:29

I'm not a bad cook even if I say myself. However I was doing an aubergine parmigiana thing and had run out of olive oil. I thought coconut oil might be a pleasant substitute. It was not. The dish tasted like bad feet.

During our hottest day ever I cooked an egg in the sun (took ages) and had it in a sandwich. It was rank.

Did you peel it?

I can't think of one off the top of my head, I'm sure there have been some but I think I have blanked them out.

Diet coke chicken was absolutely vile.

It was heartily recommended on Weight Watchers when I was a member.

DH was eating it very slowly until I said how awful it was & he gratefully gave up !
