Chicken and gammon steaks in a pie?

TheLadyIsAVamp · 12/04/2024 22:36

I'm hosting 8 on Sunday and a rummage in the freezer has found loads of chicken (10 breasts although I know thigh would be better) and 2 gammon steaks. Could I make a decent pie with this? Any recipes or ideas for sides appreciated as its something I've never made before.

Oooh yes!! Our butcher does an amazing creamy chicken and gammon pie. Definitely a good crowd pleaser - apologies that I can’t help re: recipe, his is our favourite so I don’t even attempt it🤣

Roasted carrots with thyme would go very nicely.

It can't be worse than four and twenty blackbirds. Have fun.

Go search Jamie Oliver's Turkey and leek pie

It is the most easiest of recipes, and you change it up for what you have, in this case chicken and gammon rather then turkey and bacon. I use the basic recipe all the time, I might not have creme fraiche or cream - doesnt matter, sometimes I follow to a tee must mostly now I follow the principles and make it my own

Leeks would be a lovely addition. Cook the chicken, leeks or onion sand gammon. Mix with a white sauce. Perfect pie filling

Thanks all, I did look up Jamie's turkey and leek and sort of adapted it to what we had. I slow cooked the gammon so it was shreddable. I tried filo pastry for the first time, herby roasted baby potatoes, roasted carrots with thyme as suggested and green beans. Went down a storm!

The basics of that recipe are fail safe imo.

I use it for using left overs or cooking from raw, doesnt matter what pastry is used, nor what you sub, it always turns out absolutely delicious

Im so glad it worked for you
