Trying to eat healthier discovered hummus (not sure if it’s spelt right) I got a big pot and omg I couldn’t stop I ate the entire pot with carrot sticks and bread sticks I’m the type of person who can’t buy multipacks or I’ll keep eating so I want to only buy singular portions of hummus not the big pots lol

All major supermarkets do their own version of this.

Synergies · 06/04/2024 20:56

Waitrose do a pack of 3 mini (single serving) pots of light hummus.

Isthiscorrect · 06/04/2024 20:56

Deli counter normally lets you buy as much or as little as you want.

goldenretrievermum5 · 06/04/2024 20:57

Echoing the Waitrose suggestion, but the most important thing is that you need to work on your binge eating disorder. That is not normal or healthy behaviour - it needs to be addressed with a HCP

hailholyqueen · 06/04/2024 21:06

You can also freeze hummus in single portions, and defrost as needed.

Gingerkittykat · 06/04/2024 21:18

Just put 1/2 or whatever amount you want to eat in a bowl and put the rest back into the fridge.

Rosesanddaisies1 · 06/04/2024 21:33

Most do. And houmous is high in calories, it’s only healthy in a very small quantity. I’d be looking at how you control your eating

TroysMammy · 06/04/2024 21:36

I make my own, no oil added, and freeze it in small pots.

Rocknrollstar · 06/04/2024 21:39

Waitrose also do a lunch pack of a single portion with carrot and celery sticks.

CreateYourOwnUsername · 06/04/2024 21:42

Making your own is really straightforward, cheaper and nicer imo. Do that and divide into portions if you need to.

PortiaWithNoBreaks · 06/04/2024 21:47

OP I’m another person who makes their own and I don't add any extra oil. It’s delicious and you can adjust the flavour to your liking.

It’s less than half the calories of shop bought. Really nutritious and healthy food.

AllThePotatoesAreSinging · 06/04/2024 22:14

Make it. I make a batch every other day and portion it. I get 4 portions per tin. Nicer, cheaper, and healthier than store bought. It takes me about 7 minutes from opening the tin of chickpeas to putting hummus portions in the fridge.

Tescos do them.. squeeze in lemon juice.

So do Tesco

Alwayswonderedwhy · 06/04/2024 22:57

Just make it and freeze in portions.

Spoon some onto your plate and put the pot back in the fridge. Increase the salad portion - not just carrots and bread sticks, have a lot of lovely salad. Also some wholemeal bread or pitta bread. It's a waste of money to buy one tiny pot.

QueenOfTheEntireFuckingUniverse · 06/04/2024 23:16

Those pots are a single portion aren't they? Wink Teen DS certainly thinks so. I can usually make them last 2 sittings.

Co-op do a massive tub. I don't buy them. I don't trust myself or DS!

AnneLovesGilbert · 06/04/2024 23:19

Another vote for making it. A tin of chickpeas makes more than a shop bought portion and you can flavour it with cumin, coriander, loads of lemon juice. I make it salt free for the baby then salt it for the rest of us. Top with bought or made zaatar or pine nuts. You can use butter and cannelini beans for a different texture too.

Lollibert · 07/04/2024 09:09

@QueenOfTheEntireFuckingUniverse it was the co op giant tub I ate I just couldn’t believe it was so delicious and I couldn’t stop myself never did I think hummus would taste so nice

Comments about wasting money aren’t massively helpful when someone is trying to control binge eating. For OP, it may be worth paying for the small pots.

Oh! Right. Wow!

Lollibert · 08/04/2024 11:37

@lemongrizzled yes I never buy multipacks of anything anymore and only keep what I need in my cupboards I got a small pot last night I was happy to get it and happy that I enjoyed a normal portion of hummus without overdoing it x
