Cocktails in a can?

Have you ever tried them? Which brands are good? I'm specifically interested in Margaritas and (cringe!) Pina Coladas.

Recently I have been inundated with ads (Giraffe, Served, Nio, MYXD, Edmunds…) and I don't want to spend £25 with each manufacturer just to find a good one.

Or perhaps they are all rubbish, in which case I'd like to know that too!

I've had Nio and what I had were really nice, not tried any others.

As a general rule, even if you adore mojitos (like me) don't be tempted, you cannot successfully preserve the flavour of fresh mint.

If you love margaritas then I highly recommend mirror margarita for pre-batched bottles, they are delicious and are crystal clear so look like a glass of water! I think they might even be available at Sainsbury's now.

Dd drinks them. We buy them from tesco or morrisons

dementedpixie · 02/04/2024 12:02

My local tesco has a huge range of the cans and also sells multipacks with a variety of flavours. I find them quite sweet but dd likes them

The funking ones are good, any branded grub the supermarket and m&s own brands. Great for trains etc. Xx

I do like mojitos but they are so easy to make… especially when you have a wild weed garden of mint right outside the kitchen door.

Margaritas on the other hand… I've tried making them twice and it was a disaster both times. I will check out Mirror Margarita — thank you.

Moth ones are the absolute bomb. Really good.

Mangolover123 · 02/04/2024 14:26

Moth are really reasonably priced I think. I got them as pressies for relatives i didn't see over Easter.

EventuallyDecluttered · 02/04/2024 14:28

Supermarkets have masses of them, you can go and try a few without it costing the earth.

Hoplolly · 02/04/2024 18:27

Funkin are the nicest ones but I'm never keen on ready made Pina Colada's as they lack the creaminess!

aroalfks · 02/04/2024 18:45

Moth margaritas are amazing, really strong.

I'm partial to the Malibu pina colada cans. I like that they're not sparkling (some of them make sparkling pina coladas?!) but they're sugar in a can and not very strong 😂

aroalfks · 02/04/2024 18:46

I've noticed Moth do a crate now, they were on offer in Tesco for £17.

Scoleah · 02/04/2024 18:50

Try the ones in home bargains! 89p a can, and they are lovely too! I think they are about £1 in b&m if you have one near :)

Theimpossiblegirl · 02/04/2024 21:01

I also like boxtails but they're pouches not cans. Their espresso martini is fab.

GingerIsBest · 02/04/2024 23:29

I make extremely good margaritas. Albeit lethal. The problem is that a lot of recipes do 2:1:1 for tequila, cointreau, lime. I think that's wrong.

I do 50ml tequila, 30ml cointreau, 20ml lime. Single squirt of agave syrup.

In shaker with lots of ice. You need it to be watered down a bit so do that THEN do your lime/salt rims. Shake aggressively and voila!
My margaritas are famous! 🍸

YerAWizardHarry · 02/04/2024 23:35

I’m surprised you find mojitos easy to make and margaritas difficult! 50ml tequila, 35ml orange liqueur (Cointreau is best), the juice from a decent sized lime and then play about with how much sugar syrup/agave takes your fancy. I normally do about 10ml. Shake hard, serve over fresh is if you like in over rocks, if not then cool your glass first!

Crowgirl · 02/04/2024 23:52

Funkin in a can is vile but the cartons and pulp are fab.

There are nice ones in M&S and Sainsbury's but can't remember the brand in Sainsbury's

BookShark · 03/04/2024 00:05

Another vote for Moth Margaritas. Not quite as good as my local Mexican restaurant, but pretty good.

Tintackedsea · 03/04/2024 00:09

Tried Moth mojitos recently I thought they were good. Great for going camping. Dh makes excellent cocktails and it's much cheaper in the long run to just have the various bottles in.

MillyMollyMandy01 · 03/04/2024 00:28

Tapp’d Cocktails are the best - order direct from their website, a mixed box is a good way to try them. A limited selection were stocked in Morrisons & Waitrose a while back. The Expresso Martini is superb!
