Uses for a dry/over baked almond sponge

We have visitors so I tried a new almond and pear sponge cake recipe from Good Housekeeping. It is so dry and a total waste of ingredients. I don't want to throw it out (and I am also not eating cake at the minute) but wondered if there is anything I can do with it?

I thought of cutting out sponge circles the size of individual dishes and freezing the sponge to make trifles at some point. I can always soak the sponge in booze when I make them. And I seem to remember there is a pudding that uses cake crumbs but can't remember what it is. Any ideas? Not the end of the world but I hate waste 😬

I’d say freeze as trifle sponge is going to be your best bet

Yes, trifle or tiramisu.

As above

No such thing as unusable cake!

Or smother it with thick butter

Queen of puddings I think is the one that uses breadcrumbs or cake crumbs. Could use it instead of breadcrumbs for treacle tart? Or put it out for the birds

@soupfiend Actually that sounds delicious 😂😂. Just not now as I'm low-carbing!!!

I've just googled a Tesco recipe which says you can use slices of stale cake in a 'bread' and butter pudding. It's a possibility I guess! The cake is bloody huge too.

Trifle or whizz it into crumbs and use them as a dessert topping.

Have it with custard?

@BigPussyEnergy Queen of Puddings! That's what I was trying to think of! Lots of ideas here so I think I'll slice some and freeze and breadcrumb some and freeze. Plus give the birds a treat too 😊
