Help!! Looking for Malibu alternatives

Hiya, i'm looking for a new coconut rum to try. Malibu used to be my go to having been drinking it since my uni however since the birth of my little one I just find that the sweetness is just so overwhelming and i can barely taste the coconut - surely pregnancy hasn't altered my tastebuds? I'm gutted as I LOVE Malibu and I've had such a craving for it over the last 10 months. My friend recommended something called Uche rum, it looks great but it's nearly double the strength. Plus it's £37!!! I want to give it a go but wondered if anyone else had tried it? Has anyone every heard of it or tried it?

I haven't come across that one. Like you Malibu always used to be my go to drink but I now find it way too sweet. I tried one called Koko Canu at my local pub and really liked it. It has the lovely coconut flavour but without the overpowering sickly sweetness. Like the one you've mentioned, the abv is much higher than Malibu though.

I've never heard of it. I guess you've tried all the supermarket dupes? Cocobay from Aldi is good, and there is an Iceland or Home Bargains version, all well under £10. Don't go for the Tesco one as that's sweeter than Malibu. I've never tried it but Malibu Black is meant to be less sweet. Also I know someone who just buys fairly low alcohol rum and adds coconut extract (from amazon) to it and adjusts for their tastebuds that day.

Hey Mary - I stumbled across your post whilst I was searching for Uche Rum on google - I am one of the Uche Rum founders :)

I've signed up to respond but as if it were fate.. my girlfriend and I are expecting a baby early next year also so it's a good time to become a member!

I hope you gave my rum a chance, we just launched a little over two years ago and have won 6 awards and accolades already so I have a feeling you'll enjoy it. It's also one of the few rums that's distilled here in England from scratch so the quality really is distinguishable - your friend knows her stuff lol

Shameless plug.. but you can find out more info on our website (I built it myself) Uche Rum

I appreciate the shout out!
