Or something with loads of veg? I'm trying to be good but got a girls lunch tomorrow in a shopping centre with every chain restaurant you can imagine!

Harvester?

SgtJuneAckland · 22/02/2024 15:22

Some of them are more calorific than other things! Watch dressings, croutons, cheese etc. I used to work in TGI Fridays many moons ago and some of the salads had more calories than the mains.
Sushi?

SgtJuneAckland · 22/02/2024 15:24

Or wagama has some really good options for 500-600 calories

WhatsYourDamageHeather · 22/02/2024 15:24

Pizza Express were really good when I had gallstones.

LovelyBitOfSquirrrel · 22/02/2024 15:25

Salads are not necessarily better. Just go to whatever place everyone fancies and look at the calories and make a choice on that. Or, just go and enjoy yourself.

MuttsNutts · 22/02/2024 15:26

Zizzi does a few. Ask for dressing on the side if you want.

ThisHonestQuail · 22/02/2024 15:26

Zizzis or Pizza Express are probs the best options. Maybe Wagas or Nandos.

But you might be better checking other options on the menu as the salads can be pretty calorific!

Floralnomad · 22/02/2024 15:27

Pizza express do a pizza with a salad in the centre but their green side salad is also huge

mitogoshi · 22/02/2024 15:27

Ironically you are likely to consume less calories at McDonald's (grilled chicken wrap and tea/coffee/sugar free drink) than a proper restaurant.

I feel like Mumsnet are missing a trick here. They could start a chain of restaurants featuring massive salads, never ending roast chicken, optional teeny tiny portions, a promise of no upfs, naice ham and a special menu for giant but skinny male children who 'wolf' down massive plate fulls.

🤣

I find most of the chain restaurants do a few mains including salad for around 750 calories. If I’m on a diet I’ll choose one of these and then have a high protein meal for my other meal such as an omelette.

BaroqueInterlude · 22/02/2024 15:41

Brewers Fayre.

FinallyFeb · 22/02/2024 15:43

Nando’s does sides such as broccoli, salad, you could order a bunch of low calorie sides, or have chicken with broccoli.

edgeware · 22/02/2024 15:55

Pizza Express actually does great salads. I don’t think this is a weird request as I love salads, and especially pregnant I can’t get enough of crunchy veg and it’s actually HARD to find good salads in a lot of restaurants. I had a tuna nicoise salad in pizza express the other night and it was lovely.

Sgtmajormummy · 22/02/2024 15:56

McDonalds. Just add a lettuce and tomato side salad to your chicken salad order, that would make a massive one.

PossumintheHouse · 22/02/2024 15:59

Definitely pizza express. They do great portions of main dish salads with breadstick style things on the side. They also have a general side salad with a nice dressing.

Taylormiffed · 22/02/2024 16:12

Nandos used to do great GF veggie salads. Think they still do them with meat.

abbless · 22/02/2024 16:35

Thanks everyone. You always hear people say about salads having a lot of dressing etc, but I'm pretty sure they're still better in terms of fibre and protein (when they contain meat) than chips, Mac and cheese, garlic bread etc! and you know what, I actually just really fancy a good old crunchy hearty salad!

Thanks everyone for suggestions, I might go with pizza express or Nando's (If my friends want to go with that too!)

Sea bass or salmon are offered on a lot of chain restaurants, sometimes with a ragu type sauce and green beans or similar. They are normally about 600 calories.

thenightsky · 22/02/2024 16:46

Last week I was meeting mates at Wetherspoons for lunch. Was pleased to find a katsu grilled chicken curry for 541 calories, including rice.

"Good"

But how much garlic bread should they offer??

mackers1 · 22/02/2024 16:59

Harvester have impressed me lately with fresh salads. Also, their salmon salad is lovely. Yes, I have salad with a salad. I love a salad.

I'm not sure carbs would be allowed in Cafe Mumsnet. If anyone asks for garlic bread they should be met with a pitying head tilt and a tinkly laugh while the waitress asks 'are you on glue?'
