Favourite food shows

AboutYouAndPeru · 30/01/2024 11:06

I am ill and bored so thought I'd start a harmless thread.

My favourite food shows;

  1. Diners, Drive ins and Dives - I love this show. i love a sneak peak into so many places in the US 9and around the world) and what they cook. I love looking at the variety of cuisine to be found- Polish; Thai; hawaiian; pizza joints. Guy Fieri is a bit shouty but fun.
  2. Hairy Bikers- when they go travelling. The series the did in the baltics was great.
  3. Barefoot Contessa- straightforward no-nonsense but slightly luxurious food.

There are loads more but those are probably my top 3 picks.

Love to know others!

I love Barefoot Contessa and Pioneer woman
It's the aesthetics and voice of the presenter/chef which I need to like.. this is why I don't like watching Jamie Oliver or Hairy Bikers.

Diners drive ins food looks so repulsive, so much grease and meat 🤢

AboutYouAndPeru · 30/01/2024 11:22

Not always about grease and meat- but certainly there is a strong element of that!

I used to love Pioneer woman then went off her a bit but I am not really sure why. I tend to like the shows that combine travel with food so favourites are when Barefoot Contessa goes to Paris or London, or New York. Paul Hollywood did a great series on bakery around various countries.

I was excited to eat in Guy from DDD place in Vegas but it had closed down. 😫

anyway

I like James martins travel food Programmes

pioneer woman all that bacon and cheese .

I like the great brittish menu the "events" and food is so random.

AboutYouAndPeru · 30/01/2024 11:30

I've never actually watched the Great British Menu. Must give it a try.

I've also discovered a fabulous channel on youtube. Max Miller Tasting History. he has 2 million followers and is delightfully enthusiastic and well-researched. he follows an historical theme (this morning I watched the history of the lobscouse) and delves into the historical origins of whatever dish he chooses and then the social history around it. I am becoming addicted. His series on the meals on the Titanic and the Hindenburg were really good. He's also really amusing.

I love Pinoneer Woman, I'd love her life on a ranch so much 😂. I like a few on Netflix especially Easy bake battle and Iron Chef and Salt, Fat, Acid . I like Big Zuu's Big Eats too. Come dine with me and Dinner Date will never get old for me either.

shreknjumps · 30/01/2024 11:48

Remember The Restaurant with Raymond Blanc? I absolutely loved that show!

MalewhoisLaffinalltheway · 30/01/2024 11:55

DDD
Rick Stein
Nigel Slater

Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall makes me laugh, but he is a bit weird...

Daisy95 · 30/01/2024 11:57

I'm very into my kitchen rules Australia and New Zealand.
Also love masterchef USA and Australia.

Also love DDD!!

Love a good cooking show!

Mrsjayy · 30/01/2024 12:00

I don't think anyone raging about Jamie Oliver is irrational personally Grin

I enjoy Hairy Bikers, Nigel Slater, Great British Menu (though not watched any of current series) and MasterChef in it's various iterations (but wish Gregg would bog off because he's monumentally irritating).

clare8allthepies · 30/01/2024 17:30

I love a food show but I think my absolute favourite has to be somebody feed Phil on Netflix, he is just so lovely!

SummaLuvin · 30/01/2024 17:42

I also can't stand Jamie Oliver, I respect what he has done for moving home cooking forward, but I don't enjoy watching him - I think I saw a Christmas special where he called his nan Tiger throughout, the cringe was unbearable.

Not everyone likes him but I really enjoyed Gordon Ramsay shows from 10-15+ years ago. The F Word was brilliant.

FizzingAda · 30/01/2024 18:21

I really wish a TV chef would taste something they've cooked and pull a face! Everything is always 'soooo good'. They never seem to adjust the seasoning, or think of any variations they could make.

Mrsjayy · 30/01/2024 18:24

can you imagine I was watching a vegan chef on Saturday kitchen and I'm sure Matt turned up his nose at the pretend egg recipe it didn't sound great tbf.

AboutYouAndPeru · 30/01/2024 19:08

I saw that Christmas special with JO too @SummaLuvin .

I'm not a huge fan of his but do appreciate the work he did around real food etc.

I shall check out some of the netflix suggestions, thanks all!

Pioneer woman here too.

Nobody else likes her and my eldest dd always says " why is she smiling like that" haha

WhamBamThankU · 31/01/2024 17:29

I love Keith floyd, Rick stein and masterchef.

Georgyporky · 31/01/2024 17:34

Food Unwrapped is very interesting, I enjoy learning more about food.

Fave cooks are The Hairy Bikers, I use their books regularly.

Dustyblue · 01/02/2024 04:29

I liked Gordon Ramsay's 24 hours to Hell & Back, and the Best Restaurants series.
I find him amusing but certainly not everyone does!

There's an Australian show "Food Safari" which features a different countries cuisine each episode. Loads are on youtube. Really watchable and inspiring, after the Egyptian episode I had to buy some hibiscus flowers to make tea 😂
