Carrot cake topping - how to stop it going runny...

made it with cream cheese (philly) and icing sugar and as soon as I stirred cheese it just went runny instead of all frosty. advice please!

I posted a similar request the other day because my recipe (4oz cheese, 3oz sugar) also goes runny. I found the answer a few days later when my daughter made me a lovely cake for Mothering Sunday.
Her version is 4oz cheese, 1oz softened unsalted butter, 3oz sugar.

I add whipped cream to the cream cheese and it doesn't go runny. I assume butter would also do the trick as donna suggested.
