I've just found a stone in my Sainsbury's chicken ready meal!

A proper hard small black stone.

Obviously I know it's all entirely my fault for eating a ready meal but i've been ill and I have no energy to cook still.

What do you think I should do about it?

Do you think if I take it into my local store they'll take it seriously? It looks just like a stone out of my garden!

If they dont take you seriously tell them the daily record will!!

seriously thats atrocious and they should be giving you more than the worth of the mea l back ..

what if you had given it to someone who hadnt noticed..?? doesnt bear thinking about

Is there a telephone number on the packaging for complaints, if so, ring and they will advise of the procedure.

I once had a piece of green plastic in a bag of mixed salad leaves. I had actually tipped some leaves (plus the plastic) out onto my plate and did not see it. However I did feel it when I tried to bite into it.

I contacted the number on the packing. They said for me to send the packaging back (gave me an address). From the packaging and barcode and date etc they knew which farm it had come from. Turns out it was a piece of plastic from a tray with sides that they use to gather the lettuces up.

I did receive a £20 voucher for ASDA where I had bought it from.

Good luck.

[smile}

bellavita · 18/03/2008 17:30

MrsE said it all for me!

Mercy · 18/03/2008 17:31

Definitely tell them (you should get another freebie meal as a replacement at least)

Katiekitty · 18/03/2008 18:39

Go to Trading Standards/Environmental Health... they can analyse it and can even go to the factory to see what happened. Also, if there are other complaints like yours, they'll do something about it (hopefully). I'm embroiled in a similar wrangle witha 'foreign body' I found in a ready meal thing.
Sainsbury's will just offer you a gift voucher, but the real issue is how the blazes did the stone get there?
Have you kept the offending article? And the packaging of the food as it will have a time and date code on it so they can find out exactly when it was made.

Hope you're feeling better too!

cupsoftea · 18/03/2008 18:40

kkitty - what happened with your chilli surprise?

Katiekitty · 18/03/2008 18:45

Well cups, thank you for asking!! I'm still going through the s-l-o-w process of it all! Am having to make a statement to say I didn't place the piece of meat in my veggie chilli and the Environmental Health people have the piece of godknowswhat in their lab, probably under a microscope as we speak. I got sent £5 by the Co-op and yelled at on the phone by a 'Customer Service' person, so it's not been a barrell of laughs so far!
Worth pursuing though as it's a bit of a shock to find something weird an unholy looking in your grub

cupsoftea · 18/03/2008 18:47

wonder what it'll turn out to be!!! - The co-op should have sent you much more than £5 plus shouldn't have been awful to you

Katiekitty · 18/03/2008 18:54

One thing - I wish I'd taken a picture of it, I didn't think. Callmewhatyoulike - take a picture of the stone!
The EH people took pics but it's good to have your own record. And, don't send it to Sainsbury's incase it goes 'missing' in the post. How big was the stone?

Hey cups - thank you! I shall keep you posted on the mystery meat!

cupsoftea · 18/03/2008 18:57

callme - a pic is a super idea (good point kkitty) - perhaps next to something to get an idea of size.

Katiekitty · 18/03/2008 18:58

Yeah, like the piece of chicken it was next to! Ugh!!! Or maybe on the fork (sorry, shouldn't joke)

cupsoftea · 18/03/2008 19:00

next to the fork - even better - lol

3NAB · 18/03/2008 19:00

Sainsbury's aren't known for beng bothered about things like that.

What do you want to do about it?

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 18/03/2008 19:34

The last time I had a complaint about JS was salad.

I was sitting there happily munching away, when I discover a spider.

Only problem was he only had 6 legs...

Followed all the normal procedures, they sent me £10. I rang up and pointed out that £10 was not very much for a 6 legged spider.

The yoof at the other end of the line could not quite grasp it, until I asked him how many legs a spider has..............

There was a light bulb moment of silence and he said...........oh yeahhhhhhhhhh, you must be wondering where the other two legs are.

Cue a further £20 voucher.

cupsoftea · 18/03/2008 19:39

yikes!!

nannyL · 18/03/2008 20:23

I had a stone (not a fruit stone but a stone like on the beach) in my hotcross bun from tesco a couple of years ago

i made a huge fuss and ended up with £50 tesco vouchers...

while making a huge fuss IN tesco i got a £5 'petrol' voucher and rather a lot of fresh cakes cause i didnt wnat any more hot cross buns from that batch

callmewhatyoulike · 18/03/2008 22:25

I've kept all the packaging and being a slob atm I was eating out of the plastic tray that it came in so I know it can only have come from there. It must have been tucked next to the chicken as I nearly broke my tooth on it!

I don't know what I want. I suppose more than anything else I want to know how the blazes it got there and if there's any chance of it happening again.

thanks btw.
