Soup Maker recipes that don't all taste the same?

I love my soup maker, it's dead handy for mid-week, wfh lunches, but the problem is that no matter what ingredients I use, they all bloody well taste the same.

Do you have any really interesting soup maker recipes that aren't the usual carrot, potato, butternut squash combos?

Tha ks!

If you are using a generic stock pot and just the veg, then yep, they will all taste the same - of the stock pot

You need to add the flavour, using herbs and spices. I dont have a soup maker, a saucepan and a hand blender work well enough for me.

I tend to roast the veggies first with the spices and herbs. Before I got the air fryer Id just shove a tray in alongside a roast or whatever it is Im oven cooking , dont need to make the soup the same day, the roasted veg will last a few days in the fridge

I like root veg soups to be really earthy so tend to use cumin, coriander and a bit of chilli for a bit of kick. A bit of thyme in with the leek and potato

Give it a try

I can't imagine that a tomato basil soup, a curried lentil soup, a corn chowder, a leek and potato soup and a chicken noodle soup could all taste the same! (The first 5 soups I love off the top of my head).

When you say the "usual combo of carrot, potato, butternut squash" are you putting that trio into every soup you make?

I've had 2 soup-makers, both were faulty & returned to Amazon. The recipes included were incredibly dull, so I just used ordinary recipes.

Leek and potato soup with added curry powder is lovely. My current favourite is lentil and carrot with dried chilli flakes. Good stock will make a difference to any soup but to get a distinctive flavour you have to add herbs or spices.

Butternut squash with Chinese 5 spice is lovely

A nice summer soup is mint, pea and courgette, really tasty and fresh. It does need the fresh mint to give it flavour.

I chucked a leftover parsnip into a vegetable soup the other day. It really enhanced the flavour.

We got one just before Christmas. Love it, I am doing leek and potato tomorrow, none of my soups have tasted the same.

My favourite recipe soup maker recipe is curried apple and carrot soup - also enjoyed by everyone I have made it for. I use a vegetable stock cube and add some cream when serving if I want to be posh!

I know what you mean - maybe it's that creamy comfort aspect that's popular at this time of year. I'm getting another SM tomorrow (!) as my last one went walkabout a few years ago but I have missed it. I used to make a really nice hot and sour soup but can't remember the recipe but will post it if anyone's interested when I track it down. I also like Asian soups so will be trying to replicate them in the SM when I have time - I lean towards south-east Asian flavours - so bright, light, spicy! If anyone has any recipes do share 😊
