Loads of turkey still left from Christmas Day, it's now 4 days old is it safe to eat?

Hope so, we just ate the last of ours.

craigth162 · 28/12/2023 18:52

No

wasanneofcleves · 28/12/2023 18:53

Yes

Spaghettieis · 28/12/2023 18:55

If it’s been cooked properly and stored in the fridge I’d say it’s fine… DH is currently eating a turkey sandwich and no ill effects so far 😁

Fallstar · 28/12/2023 18:55

I'd say so.

We usually allow five days max and it's only been three so far. We'll make the last of ours into a curry tomorrow.

Been doing it for 35 years and nobody's been ill from it yet.

2under2in2024 · 28/12/2023 18:58

As long as it's stored safely in the fridge I would. 7 days would be my cut off.

LeggyLegsEleven · 28/12/2023 18:59

We finished ours today. We usually go to the 4th day if there’s enough left, usually we are out by the 3rd.

Jacfrost · 28/12/2023 19:01

My DH is a celebrity chef and he says today would be fine.

Did you cook yours on the 26th? If you did it on the 25th, I’d count it as 4 days.

manipulatrice · 28/12/2023 19:07

Not a celebrity chef here and just ate ours. I guess we will soon find out.

Yes, cooked it on the 25th but even if you count it as four days, it will still only be five days by the time we eat the rest tomorrow. I'd probably leave it a day longer but it gets eaten so never an issue!

eurochick · 28/12/2023 19:11

We've just had the last of ours in a curry. No I'll effects yet!

MrsFloof · 28/12/2023 19:11

We are eating rest of ours tonight, been kept refrigerated. Not anticipating issues.

mayorofcasterbridge · 28/12/2023 19:13

I froze my leftovers on Christmas night - just kept out enough for Boxing Day!!

I've leftovers from Boxing day but don't really fancy them now...

Georgyporky · 28/12/2023 19:20

DM used to feed us with turkey into January, & I'm still here !

Not sure why but the "not a celebrity chef here" tickled me 😂😂

TheseLegsDefinitelyUsedToBeLonger · 28/12/2023 19:34

Yeah it’ll be fine. I’ve eaten the last of ours - split it with the dog 😁- and it’s all good. Just like every year. I always turn the fridge up a bit over Christmas to make sure everything stays cold 😋

Lollypop701 · 28/12/2023 19:47

its fine imo as long as kept cool, and if you won’t eat it now freeze it and make a soup etc
with it next year

marylou25 · 28/12/2023 19:55

It's always hard to answer that because you don't know how someone has stored it. I made pie with most of the leftovers of mine last night but left enough for a final sandwich tomorrow and I 'd probably eat it the following day too. That said I took all the meat off the bone once cool and it has been in a very cold fridge since on the coldest shelf so I know it's been stored correctly. A turkey on the bone in a packed fridge being opened continually for milk etc may not last as long.

Oooo. Give us a clue!!

PotterHead1985 · 28/12/2023 19:56

Just shovelling the homemade turkey curry into me now, so I hope so! 🤣

LiquidGold315 · 28/12/2023 20:06

Up to 7 days should be fine

MrsEllenGriswold · 28/12/2023 20:13

Neither a celebrity nor chef but should be fine. Still eating ours.

Pushkinini · 28/12/2023 20:14

I stupidly bought an enormous turkey saddle so we still have loads left. Planning on making half of it into a turkey, leek and ham pie tomorrow for Saturday evening and freezing the rest. DM used to feed us leftover turkey into the new year. I'm still here to tell the tale.

ArcticBells · 28/12/2023 20:14

I usually say 4 days, then bin it or freeze it
