What to do with christmas pudding

Hello,
a dear friend gifted my a small British christmas pudding in a plastic bowl/tin. It says on the label it should be steamed, I wonder if I have to take it out to steam? And do I serve it with ice-cream?

It is a Matthew Walker Classic Christmas pudding.

I'm not British and don't live there, and have only ever read about Christmas puddings in books!

Thanks for any tips.

You can microwave it it's already cooked just needs to be warmed. Brandy butter and cream (or sweet white sauce) are traditional or some weirdos like custard

Thanks. I don't have a microwave, so should steam it. The label says 1h steaming. Unless I could warm it up in the oven????

Stick in a saucepan with water a third full. Put on to simmer, add pudding, steam with lid on. Keep an eye on the water level.

Do not pierce the film until ready.

Much easier in a microwave, can you use someone's?

Put it in a saucepan, enough water around that it doesn't come over the top of the pudding.

Bring to boil then simmer for one hour.

Alternatively people do fry christmas pud in butter but that's probably after steaming as a leftover the next day. Not oven.

I would do this too. It will come out better than microwaving it in my personal opinion. You could serve it with ice-cream, but a custard or brandy sauce are more traditional.

Steam it in the pot, inside a pan with some water.

I would serve it with vanilla ice cream or cream. Not traditional but the flavours of a Christmas pudding are strong and not to everyone’s taste, a mild accompaniment should help.

Many thanks for the advice!

It can 100% be microwaved and be lovely. Tip it into a micro-safe bowl, cover with cling film with tiny vent gap, then start at 30seconds, unlikely to need more than 2 mins total. Serve with brandy cream ideally!
