Not with sultanas as some in my family don't like them. Thanks!

Delia Smiths is the best. No sultanas.

I always do Nigella’s red cabbage with orange juice, red onions and apple

Off to google the recipes! Thanks 🙂

Another recommendation for Delia’s. Always goes down a treat and it’s super easy.

I'm not a huge lover of the cooked cabbage with spices type recipes and was wondering the same.

It's a bit different but just found this which looks nice for a different way to use it:

I'm going to do my red cabbage in the slow cooker this year (there are lots of recipes online). I'm thinking I can prep it the night before then put the slow cooker on Christmas day morning and then can just leave it to do its thing and don't have to use up oven space or keep an eye on it too much. The recipe I'm using is shredded red cabbage, red apple, sliced red onion, cider vinegar and brown sugar and I'm also going to stir in a tablespoon of cranberry sauce 😋.

Yes, Delia's is my favourite too. Reheats beautifully as well.

MrsTerryPratchett · 23/12/2023 18:32

Anyone got a link to Deliah's one?

MrsTerryPratchett · 23/12/2023 20:54

Thanks!

justabigdisco · 23/12/2023 21:33

Has anyone ever done the delia recipe in the slow cooker? Do you need to alter it?

AnnaMagnani · 23/12/2023 21:36

I really don't like Delia's and I usually like all her recipes.

I do this - redcurrant cordial can be swapped for Ribena or redcurrant jelly

Medium red onion finely chopped, red cabbage core removed and chopped fairly fine, sauté both, add 2 chopped apples, 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar, heaped tbsp brown sugar, 3-4 bay leaves, 2 cinnamon sticks, 2 cups vegetable stock and handful cranberries (optional) cook 1 hour

One year I was given a jar of over boiled marmalade that had to be literally sliced. Added half of that instead of sugar one year plus orange juice for acid. The usual apple, onion and bramley apple. It was gorgeous, glossy, tangy.

Wildernesstips · 24/12/2023 07:46

@WhiteHorse92 I did my red cabbage yesterday in the slow cooker - looks like the same ingredients. It tastes lovely, and I have three containers full, so a couple will get stashed in the freezer.

FutureDays · 24/12/2023 08:03

I’ve recently started doing mine in the slow cooker but can also be done on the hob

I do one red cabbage, 1 onion, 1 cooking apple then 1-2 table spoons of sugar, a tablespoon of cider vinegar and a tablespoon of water

nomoresnacks · 24/12/2023 08:13

Does anyone know can I do it in the slow cooker without the apple. Just the onion ? Do you need to add lots of water . I'm already running out of hob space so a slow cooker would be a great alternative!

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/12/2023 01:18

OK I did a whole cabbage, redcurrant jelly, balsamic, butter, onion, garlic, a cinnamon stick, red wine, chicken stock. It's chilling and I'll heat it up with port soon.

I mean it smells good.

GrumpyPanda · 25/12/2023 01:24

We do red wine or port as the only liquid. Allspice, cinnamon, cloves, citrus peels. Onion. Apples are sliced and caramelized separately with sugar, then added at the very end.
