Will this work - adding butter to shop bought shortbread

I want to make quick easy caramel
Shortbread so thinking of buying a couple of packs of shortbread fingers and crushing them up, adding a bit of butter and smoothing out in a tin almost like a cheesecake base. Then I'll add caramel and chocolate once set.

Is there any reason this wouldn't work?

You might need a fair amount of butter to get it to stick together but it sounds delicious!

Don't crush them - fit them in a tray tightly then proceed as normal. Shortbread is too rich and buttery to take more and it'll just end up claggy.

Either make it from scratch or just buy caramel shortbread. You'll need so much butter it probably won't taste very nice.

Leave the shortbread whole, don’t crush and add butter, the consistency won’t be right

The shortbread base is really easy to make, though. Just as easy as the crushed biscuit crumbs mixed with butter idea.

I have not made the recipe from the linked blog, but this woman is usually very reliable.
