Fancy mashed potato ideas

Of course I do normal mashed potatoes plenty, but I'm looking for something a bit more special.

My parents are coming over a few days after Christmas and I am going to make this pie https://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/turkey-recipes/turkey-and-sweet-leek-pie/

I want to serve it with mash. Just wondering I'd anyone has any suggestions of recipes? Would a mustard mash work? Cheesy garlic mash? Help!

Leftover turkey and leek pie recipe | Jamie Oliver recipes

This turkey & leek pie recipe from Jamie Oliver is dead simple, completely versatile, and absolutely gorgeous. It's one of the best leftover turkey recipes.

I'm going to be making a camembert mash, I don't have a recipe, just make it as I go along. I do finish with slices on top and pop it under the grill maybe with a wee drizzle of honey :)

If you just want really good mash I would invest in a potato ricer, they are not expensive and make super smooth mash. I add good butter, the aldi one with sea salt crystals is nice and double cream. A couple of cloves of garlic boiled with the potatoes is also nice.

I like a spoon of horseradish sauce stirred into mashed potato. Always plenty of black pepper too .

AlisonDonut · 19/12/2023 09:37

I love my jacket spuds with the insides removed, mashed through the ricer, mixed with butter, milk, pepper and cheese, put back into the skins, slices of tomato over the top, with more cheese and some Tabasco and put under the grill til the cheese melts.

So I'd do that.

Celeriac mash would work beautifully. I think it’s 50-50 potato and celeriac but there’s lots of recipes. It’s like a more nutty, creamy mash. Delicious!

Chicken/turkey & leek pie is a leftover (or freshly cooked meat) favourite in our house, although we have it with roast potatoes rather than mash.

I like wholegrain mustard in mash.

Parsnip and potato mash is really lovely

Dotcheck · 19/12/2023 09:52

Personally I would just have a subtle mash, perhaps flavoured with cheddar. I wouldn’t want anything to compete with the leek. Looks delicious though!!

I put butter, cream an egg yolk and mix it with a electric hand mixer to make it super fluffy. Also from all of the potato varieties I think Morris Piper makes the best mash.

I love cauliflower cheese mash. Boil a pan of potatoes with chopped up cauliflower, drain and mash with lots of butter and add in a load of grated cheese. Yum 😋

TheLadyIsAVamp · 19/12/2023 10:13

I really like clapshot, colcannon or champ

AdaColeman · 19/12/2023 10:40

I like colcannon for an interesting mash, or for something special mash with truffle oil, taste as you're making it, to get the flavour balance right for you.

Other things I do with mash are swirl through whole grain mustard, or add a sprinkle of pink peppercorns, or swirl through some pesto.
