It’s for Christmas Day, I’ll pay up to £12-15. To be served with roast chicken and all the usual accompaniments . Thanks for any recommendations.

Thanks for that Mrs Danvers. I’ve tried Luis Felipe’s Malbec which was very good, the Merlot gets very mixed reviews though. Have you tried it?

A fair few times 😁I admit I didn't look at the reviews, but I've never had a bottle of this from Waitrose that I haven't liked.

Edited to say I've just read the reviews and don't recognise the wine I've been drinking there. Maybe they got a bad batch. It's on offer ATM IIRC for £ 5.99 so worth a try?

TheGander · 16/12/2023 19:18

Yes and at that price I can try it out before Christmas Day and buy again if I like it!

I really like Mcguigan reserve merlot. You could buy 2 bottles for the price you want to spend, but I find it soft, juicy and easy drinking. They might have another range at a higher price point though.

Def recommend McGuigan as well. I'm not a lush, honest :)

Not a merlot but a lovely smooth fruity yet not heavy red, Diablo Dark. Made with syrah and malbec grapes. Currently my favourite red
On offer at Asda and Tesco. Goes with everything.

I don't know what red this is but it's the nicest one my dh has had other than £50 bottles (he says it's as nice as) smooth and creamy

Please recommend a good supermarket Merlot
