I'd like to scratch cook mezze on NYE. For vegans, veggies some meat eaters. Combination of textures ie some dips, kebabs etc. Ideally some dishes I can prep ahead and freeze.

Lovely idea. Thinking about when we've gone to Greek, Turkish or Middle Eastern places, what's on offer typically includes:

Hummus
Taramasalata
Tzatziki
Stuffed vine leaves
Greek salad
Imam bayildi
Baba ganoush
Beans in some form - I think the Greek ones are called gigantes
Spanakopita or tyropita (spinach and cheese pie or cheese pie) - the Turkish equivalent is borek, I think
Olives
Pitta or flatbreads or crusty bread with sesame seeds

All the above
taboule
carrot, apple raisin salad
kibe
some slow roasted lamb

hangingonfordearlife1 · 10/12/2023 11:00

hummus
tabouleh
fatoush
falafel
burak filled with dairy free feta or other dairy free cheese
vine leaves
veggie kebabs
garlic mushrooms

Stuffed aubergines and peppers

Courgette or green beans or button mushrooms a la Greque

Marinaded anchovies

Grilled squid rings

Large bowl of Horta, you can use any bitter leaves, spinach rocket endive etc, doesn't have to be dandelion leaves.

Muhamara - our favourite dip in this house!

Frenchfancy · 10/12/2023 11:21

Courgette fritters
Hummus
Fried chicken wings

Thank you there are some brilliant ideas here. I think I'll do vegan borek with soaked mushed up cashews with salt to replace the feta. Can freeze ahead.
I think Baba ganoush and hummus can be frozen too.
I'll ponder the rest.

Also:

  • Balsamic roasted peppers
  • Paprika roasted chickpeas
  • Croquettes (potato base then can add whatever other flavours you want)
  • Flatbreads
  • Fried chorizo with red wine

fava - it’s a split pea dip (and relative of pease pudding - both Roman). Bloody lovely and vegan.

tabbouleh

tahini/yoghurt/garlic/lemon juice dip with roast veg sprinkled with pul biber (Turkish pepper flakes)

Cubes of feta wrapped in filo, baked and drizzled with honey and toasted sesame seeds 🤤

This is my favourite kind of party food. I think you need:

  • Lots of fresh bread. Store-bought pita can be really gross so I'd go for proper fresh baguettes sliced into disks.
  • olives of any kind
  • tzatziki, hummus
  • Greek salad (cucumber, tomatoes, feta, etc)
  • meatballs, garlicky prawns, chicken skewers
  • fried halloumi
  • olive oil, lemon and fresh oregano on the table

Sabrina Ghayour's lamb and sour cherry meatballs.

Her radicchio and blood orange salad would also be good this time of year - could adapt to be red cabbage and orange.
