Find several bottles. Says drink within a year or 6 months after purchase but no date. Some must ge out of date, maybe more than a year. If it’s alcohol would this be an issue?

I once drank Bacardi that was stored for a while. Unopened bottle. I have never been so ill in my life. I had two drinks and was in agony with stomach wrenching projectile vomiting from the early hours until well into the following afternoon. I honestly never considered things like that going bad before.

They both have fruit and other un alcoholic additions, so can go off. You wouldn’t drink out of date orange juice, presumably.

Don’t! Once had mulled wine with a label like that, decided it was alcohol and would be fine. Had a glass and felt awful, stomach pains and upset, for the next 24 hours.

Bacardi as in just rum? Surely bottles of spirits keep for decades? Or was it Bacardi mixed with something else?

@DoIOrNot
unopened spirits have an indefinite shelf life so I don’t think that would have caused your sickness.

Cripes, glad I opened this thread! I also have an out of date bottle.

PGmicstand · 10/12/2023 09:34

I was going to save mine for Xmas. Shall have to check the bottle now as its unopened, but possibly out of date.

Look at the ingredients.

M&S mulled wine ingredients list is Red Wine, Sugar, Flavourings, Preservative: E220 (Sulphites). No fruit or fruit juice. Surely would last unopened for years, although probably best drunk within a few months of purchase from a flavour point of view.

M&S Bucks Fizz ingredients: Water, White Wine, Grape Must, Concentrated Orange Juice, Preservative: E220 (Sulphites), E202, Antioxidant: Ascorbic Acid. Store in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight. Consume within 12 months of purchase.

My view on that is if it's lasted a year it'll be all right for a few more weeks.
