Shop bought vegetarian pate recommendations please

I may well make one, so recipes also appreciated (but not cream cheese and mushroom as I've done that too many times)However I'd like to have a shop bought vegetarian pate in reserve. Any suggestions? Tesco, Sainsbury's, Lidl, Aldi, M&S preferably, although I can get to Morrisons, Waitrose and Asda, just quite a bit further away.
Thank you

Any other suggestions please? I will try to get the butternut squash pate already mentioned as I'd enjoy it anyway and I'm a meat eater. Have heard too many vegans/vegetarians on MN complaining about too much butternut squash so would like a second option if possible. Thanks

Waitrose mushroom pate is nice.

Cauldron used to make such a lovely lentil and tomato pate years ago, but I can't find it any more. I wish they'd make it again. It made a great change from the mushroom offering that domimates supermarkets.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/12/2023 09:25

The M&S mushroom one is lovely.

OMGitsnotgood · 17/12/2023 10:48

The lentil and tomato would have been perfect! I was also trying to avoid mushrooms as I have made mushroom and cream cheese pate so many times for the same people.
Maybe I'm just over thinking it and should go with the butternut and mushroom suggestions, but still hapoy for more recommendations.
Thank you

Yes this was lovely. M&S do a really nice butternut one, but haven't seen it for a while.

This is a nice recipe

I used to buy a herby one from Holland and Barrett. ‘‘Twas many years ago now and I don’t even know if it still exists. I think it was Tartex or something like that. They did a couple of other flavours too if I remember correctly, no doubt one of them was mushroom.

It’s vegan and in a jar rather than fresh but lovely imo and probably not available in supermarkets but online / local health shop - Bonsan red pepper and cashew pate/ spread and lentil and tumeric

MockneyReject · 17/12/2023 11:12

I still buy Tartex. Holland &Barrett, Amazon and (oddly) my local farm shop all sell it.
It's not really 'special occasion' pate, though. But it is good stuff - the Swiss herb is the best, IMO.

BrassCandlestick · 17/12/2023 11:14

Tartex is a vegetarian staple but if you haven't had it before, it's a real treat. Various flavours, the red pepper one is nice. It's in a tube so not dippable but on crackers it's great, toasted on bread even better.

SnapdragonToadflax · 17/12/2023 11:16

The Sainsbury's ones aren't actually marked as veggie. They probably are, but there's no V.

I second Tartex. We like the mushroom and the herb pate.

Ooo the one in a squeezy tube!

Look for Ajvar. You might have to go to a Polish supermarket, but where I am it's in the normal supermarket in a jar. It's lovely in toast with crumbled feta on top.

ScupperedbytheSea · 27/06/2025 10:29

Not exactly paté, but I do love a good olive tapenade.
