DC wanted tuna pasta bake tonight. I haven’t eaten it since university so I made my uni staple.
Red onion, sweetcorn, tin of tuna, pasta, tin of bachelors condensed mushroom soup. Topped with grated cheese and baked until golden.
it was lush.
any other ideas for meals involving condensed soup?

I went to a 60th Birthday party 3 weeks ago, & there were Vol au Vents (Vols au Vent)?

Anyhoo, they were bloody lovely. Half were with prawn cocktail, & the others mushrooms in Campbells Batchelirs condensed soup.

Campbells/Batchelors

Sigh.

I sometimes add a can of tomato soup to chilli.

Mix some chopped ham and mushroom with a tablespoon of condensed mushroom soup. Put onto toast then grill until brown.
This is my recreation of Toast Toppers and I think it's pretty good.

A long long time ago, mid 80s maybe, I was served a quiche which had condensed tomato soup mixed into the eggs instead of cream. IIRC it was actually quite nice, and I had completely forgotten about it until now.

Pork chops cooked in mushroom soup
Chicken divan
Funeral potatoes
Chicken risotto my mum made this, there's loads of other recipes on the Campbells website.

Not condensed soup but Nadiya does a fab curry with tinned tomato soup.

DH makes a childhood dish called Chicken a la King, involving tins of cream of asparagus soup, pasta, chicken, mustard, loads of cheese & red capsicum for colour.

It's not my favourite. And he's making it tonight🙄

Use as a cook in sauce for any raw meat or fish fillets/fish pie mix, possibly with sauted onions and/or other veg as well. I wouldn't dilute the soup at all, just spoon it over the other ingredients and put in the oven (or do it on the hob in a good solid pot with the lid on, on a low flame). In days of yore there was no need to add salt to this as the condensed soup was usually quite salty to start with. Haven't done this for ages, though, so possibly they have fallen victim to health campaigners trying to get salt levels reduced in recent years.

There was a thread here recently where people were bemoaning the difficulty of finding condensed soup in the shops. This seems to happen every few years. The brand changes from Campbell's to Batchelor's and then back again. Odd.

This is a favourite in our family. Sorry for imperial measurements - it's from that era!

  • 1lb (or 500g pack) steak mince
  • 1 medium chopped onion
  • 4oz chopped mushrooms
  • 1 can condensed mushroom soup
  • 1 can condensed tomato soup
  • 8oz cooked Macaroni
  • 4oz grated cheddar
  1. Soften the onion and mushroom then brown the mince in a little oil.
  2. Cook the macaroni as per the instructions on the pack.
  3. Mix all the ingredients together, keeping back about 1oz of cheese, then pour into a casserole dish and top with the remaining cheese.
  4. Place the unlidded casserole dish in a pre-heated oven at 160c for 40 mins.

Does anyone know of a dark meat condensed soup and where it is stocked?

Heinz used to do an Oxtail one which made great Cottage Pies, but haven't seen one for years, only Chicken, Tomato and very rarely Mushroom...

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 11/12/2023 16:36

I don't know of one now. When I was growing up, there were a lot more condensed soups available than there are now. Oxtail was one. My favourite was tomato rice. We always had Campbell's condensed soups at home.
