Turkey trouble!

Ok, not really trouble (yet!) But I need help (please). I'll add now that I never cook joints of meat so am clueless about size!

Usually there's just 2 of us for Xmas and I get a boneless turkey crown. This year though there will be 4 adults and one small but hungry child, so I thought I'd get a full turkey.

But it looks as though even a small turkey might be a bit too big, and the farms around here which have free-range turkeys are asking more than £100 for a turkey larger than I need!

So, what size turkey would you recommend? Crown or whole bird? Would you recommend any supermarket free-range birds?

I would get a fresh small finest turkey from Tesco and unless you want to eat the legs get a small or medium sized crown 3kg should be big enough. Shouldn’t be more than £40.

You could get a rolled stuffed Turkey breast joint from Marks & Spencer, which wouldn't take long to cook. You would need one of slightly over a kilo for five people, and they cost about £25. They are easy to carve, and there is no waste with them.
