Aldi turkey crown - cook from frozen??

Was in local Aldi yesterday and bought a turkey crown from Aldi as it was a total bargain, £22.49 and 30% off because the box was bashed. Cooking instructions are a bit odd. Put in oven from frozen and cook for 1hr 45m, then open up the greaseproof paper wrapper and cook another 90 mins. Usual stuff about juices running clear.

Has anyone had one of those turkey crowns and has cooked from frozen? It's not that I don't trust Aldi, but am so accustomed to the "defrost thoroughly before cooking". In previous years we've had a fresh crown from M&S but were really disappointed with last year's given the ££££ price tag.

Yes! We have and it was a bit freaky. It was fine though. I remember being nervous carving it.

It just goes against everything I was ever taught about cooking poultry. Although back in the 90s I shared a flat with a french girl who would always cook chicken breasts from frozen rather than defrosting. May invest in a food thermometer.

I have bought Iceland ones in past (great bargain, couldn't leave!) and instructions were the same, it's hard to overcome the 'must thaw it first' thinking but it worked fine from frozen.

Just popping back with a report - worked absolutely PERFECTLY from frozen following the instructions, was moist and not even a little dried out and a perfect amount for 5 of us with a small amount of leftovers. Well done Aldi - just as good as the one we had from M&S last year which was 3 times the price.

Thats useful for next year, thank you. Don't want to faff defrosting so usually have other meats, lamb today, lovely to be fair.

I bought a frozen turkey crown from Aldi. How do you marinate it in butter and herbs if cooking from frozen? I was planning on following a recipe like this:

On cooking from frozen: a crown is breast meat only, so it is the same density all through and therefore suitable for cooking from frozen. A whole bird won't work because the different parts of the carcass have different densities.

@roses2 I suggest you baste the crown as you go along, a bit at a time. Keep it covered.

I started this thread same time last year and we have bought another of the Aldi cook from frozen crowns this year. If I remember correctly, it is covered with greaseproof paper and the instructions say something like cook for X time, then pull back the paper, raise the temperature and cook for a further X time. At the point where you pull back the paper you could baste and whatever else you want to do.
