For the love of (Parmesan) Cheese

I know, as problems go, it’s a good one but I have been hooked on the Giovanni Ferrari Parmigiano Reggiano PDO (22 months) for a long time now, it is so good, almost the best Parmesan I’ve ever eaten. Certainly the best via online grocery shopping.

I’ve tried a few others from Ocado and none come remotely close to the depth of flavour and complexity, nuttiness, the crystals. The Ferrari Grana Padana Riserva is fine but it’s not Parmesan.

So, two questions, if you shop on Ocado can you buy it? It may just be temporarily out of stock in my area - but it’s been months 😫

Second do any Parmesan lovers have a favourite to recommend from Ocado or another online retailer?

I think MN needs its own Cheese section.

A reply!

I assumed it would be crickets.

But I wrote it anyway.

There is always hope that one very niche cheese freak could find another.

Tis the season and all that.

Just checked on Ocado and can’t even find it. So guessing they have delisted it. Sorry, they’ve done this to a load of things I loved 😞

Thank you for checking, I shall give up on it and bravely continue my search for an equivalent. 😊

MN is very unpredictable. This discussion could as easily result in crickets as 1000 posts.

I now need to find this cheese! Do you work for them?

Christmassy · 24/11/2023 14:53

@Finestreason

I want to try this now..

Christmassy · 24/11/2023 14:56

Or some at BritSuperstore. For a 150g block £7.40 p&p about a fiver.

I could never work for a cheesemonger or cheese manufacturer, it would probably be the death of my arteries. Also, I don’t like cows with their long tongues and mooing.

Thank you! I did not find this when I searched for it. They seem to have it in stock, that’s the best news of the day. Merry Christmas to me.

I haven’t ever eaten the grated one, I like to eat it shaved as it melts on the tongue and leaves that lingering umami flavour.

Will try to order some later. Hurrah for me. Thank you.

Definitely a cheese board! Grin

If you come really stuck, you can order your parmesan directly from Italy. I've done it once and never gone back (we eat a lot of Parmesan!). Parmashop probably still deliver to the UK despite brexit (they do the US, so probably the UK too). I get mine from the Consorzio Vacche Rosse after having been to their factory in Reggio Emilia. It's heavenly. They have a 24 month and a 30 month.
