DS is making a recipe from this book https://www.amazon.co.uk/Great-British-Bake-Off-Perfect/dp/1473615445?nodl=1&dplnkId=68fa69d6-8d7d-4c75-b1cf-285deb10bc2b

it’s rum and raisin brownies - see attachment - and has no baking powder and uses plain flour. anyone know if this is correct?

Yep, sounds right to me. You want brownies to be nice and fudgy, so not much rise

OK great thank you we’ll keep going. Just worried it was an error!

Yep, the brownie recipe I use doesn't have any raising agent either

I don't think I have ever put baking powder in brownies. It's one of the reasons they can cope so well with being gluten free; they don't need to rise so the structure the gluten facilitates isn't required.

I adore brownies - save me one! 😉

Me too, my recipe is very simple with flour, butter, sugar, eggs & dark chocolate.

The 'rise' comes from mixing the sugar & eggs till light & fluffy & carefully adding in the melted chocolate and butter, and a small amount of flour.

It's normal but I always prefer to put a little bit in because then you get that slightly puffy top which then sinks as it cools.

Thanks everyone! They were delicious and we’ll definitely make them again.

The recipe we normally use, that is very quick, uses oil not butter, and cocoa and drinking choc instead of melted choc. It does have baking powder in
